Owned! Woman wins $2 on game show after turning down deal

http://thsrv.com/p/dond-owned.jpg

This is the Australian version of "Deal Or No Deal"

Bank offer at this point was $22, she laughed and turned it down. The second last case eliminated $50, meaning her case contained $2.

Earlier in the game the deal offers - which she refused - had been wandering around the $5,000 mark.

OWNED!!!

I don't know about the rest of the world but that seems to be the cliche on Australian game shows...

"Well, <insert host's name>, I came here today with nothing, so if I leave with nothing I've still had fun. I'll go for it!!!"

I think someone once won 50c.

You mean the maximum winnings? Well, Australia has a tenth of the population of the USA, and here it shows weekdays (ie 5 games per week) which increases the aggregate total.

I think the trip to the studio cost her more. However, she could hopefully cash in on the exposure she got from the show, maybe get offers to play dumb hillbilly wife on some soap opera. "Neighbours" comes to mind. :1orglaugh

There are quite a few who have walked away with 1p on the UK version, but only one who has got the 250 grand.

BTW as much as I hate to admit it I really enjoy the show despite the majority of people on there being some of the biggest wankers in world history.

Spunky 05-18-2007 06:25 AM

That will teach the greedy bitch

JamesK2 05-18-2007 06:32 AM

I saw a guy win 1 EUR once on deal or no deal.

Sucks to be them :)

FelixFlow 05-18-2007 10:15 AM

ive seen ppl turn down $200k, only to wind up leaving with something like a couple thousand dollars

I've never really understood the fascination with the whole "Deal or no Deal" thing.

All they're doing is picking cases.

There's no need for knowledge, skill, or intellect... it's just dumb luck.

The only skill is in the host's delivery, and the guy who composed the algorithm that tells them how much to offer the contestant.

The fascination of people being greedy and getting owned. For example I saw one show last week where the chick had 3 cases hers and 2 others $10,000, $200K and $750K offer was $198K. Now to me $198K is the same as $200K so there is only a 1/3 chance she's going to do better. If she picks the $200K case or the $750K case that offer is going to drop. Math tells you only 1/3 chance of the offer going up. So take the deal. Nope she gets greedy and then picks the $750K case. Offer drops to $60K which she takes. She ended up having $10,000 in her case.

Now the funny thing is when there were 4 cases left the offer was $128K, her friend says "You didn't come here for $128K". When the offer drops to $60K her friend says "$60K is a lot of money, take the deal". WTF? Ok $128K and $198K weren't enough, now $60K is?

Mon Dieu! How can I continue to live with this news?

Same in Australia.

I'd say there's a screening process that chooses that type of person.

They got that show here also, 99% of the people playing it are fucking retards ... always talking about "i have a good feeling about that number" or "it's the birthday of the son of the daughter of my sisters best friend"

LOL, I mean it's a fucking case with a number and a random value in it ... you asswipes :)
And when a big one gets opened they're like "I knew it, I knew it" ... well then why the hell did you open it?

Fact is, most of those people have never managed to get like $20K together, yet they gamble with it like it's not real money they're talking about.

If you follow the shows you know the amount that can be reached safely, when you come near that, take the deal.
Unless you're rich and don't give a shit about losing some money.
