"Porn Protest Planned Outside Mission Armory
Purchased For Bondage Movie Studio
KGO NEWS

Feb. 8 - KGO - A protest is planned for today outside of San Francisco's old National Guard Armory, not to save the historical site, but to stop the porn there.

Kink.com is making movies there, bondage movies, and some neighbors are not amused... Peter Acworth, Kink.com Founder & CEO: "This is not a porn shop. There are no customers that are going to come here. The only way you can get our movies is to download them off the internet. The only thing the neighbors are going to see is in the beginning of the day, a truck full of clothed people in it. At the end of the day, a truck full of clothed people going out, and that will be it."

The armory is only nine blocks away from where Kink.com has been shooting its movies for the past four years. The company likes this location on 5th and Mission streets, but says it's become too small to shoot the 50 movies it produces each month."

And now that Kink.com is expanding in the old armory means that the building is no longer sitting empty like it has been for the past 37 years.

But that still isn't enough to put some neighbors at ease.

Marc Holcomb, San Francisco Resident: "Just having the thought in my head that I'm right next to this, living right next to this is nasty."

The protest is scheduled for noon."

why dont people spend that time volunteering at a food bank instead of worrying about someone else ethical "issues".

that's what I think when I read stuff like that... they simply have too much time on their hands :Oh crap

humiliatrix 02-08-2007 12:38 PM

There's a great quote from peter of kink.com about the Armory being originally a place to train soldiers to kill people:

"That's obscenity,'' he said. "What we plan to do is nothing compared with what this building was intended for.''

sweet.

The Mrs. Kravitz's Dumbass Of The Year Award was being held by..

Steven Baldwin & The Culture Wars

Move in, make a fuss, change the community and then pull up stakes- leaving a huge mess behind!

Got a contender in SF it seems.

xdcdave 02-08-2007 02:38 PM

Man kink.com is just getting awesome press coverage from this. Worth the $14.5m right there with all this mainstream attention.

Pipecrew 02-08-2007 03:21 PM

I guess thats what happens when you send out press releases and talking about buying a building soo much, why not lay low? You reap what you sow.

crockett 02-08-2007 03:23 PM

I wonder how many sign ups they get out of all this free advertising?

Z 02-08-2007 03:50 PM

Kink rocks...the free publicity is great too and fuck the whiners

50 protest porn business inside old Mission Street armory
Steve Rubenstein, Chronicle Staff Writer

(02-08) 16:14 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Fifty soggy yet passionate picketers marched in front of the old armory on San Francisco's Mission Street today to protest the dirty movies being shot on the other side of the brick walls.

Carrying signs reading "Shut it Down" and "Stop Sex-ploitation,'' the protesters demanded that Kink.com, an online pornographer, stop its plans to make X-rated bondage videos inside the building.

But instead of backing down, Kink boasted that it had already shot three videos inside the 93-year-old armory, featuring veteran porn star Princess Donna, who was "expertly suspended above the drill court . . . with no complaints from anyone.''

"This is oppressive and inappropriate for our community,'' said Sam Ruiz, executive director of Mission Neighborhood Centers. "It's not OK to promote acts of degradation and violence. We don't want this kind of stuff here.''

Protesters complained that Kink degrades the neighborhood, degrades women and offers "dead end'' jobs that no decent person would want.. . . .

. . . As for the filming that has already taken place, Acworth said Princess Donna in her ropes and chains was suspended above the massive drill court on the main floor last week, and that two other bondage videos were shot this week in the basement boiler room.

"No neighbor noticed,'' Acworth said. "There were no complaints from anyone.''

The only problem, Acworth said, was that the old building was too cold for performers during shooting. The company will be investing in more portable heaters, he said, because it's important for his hogtied and horsewhipped actors and actresses to be comfortable."

----

yeah, amen to that: MORE PORTABLE HEATERS! :1orglaugh

If this was not pre planed and purposely leaked info to spur on a protest I would be looking for a new head person of the advertising division. One of the best ways to get a shitload of free mainstream advertising for an adult company is to get news coverage due to a protest.

I know first hand when we were about to open up a club the franchise company wanted to know if we would be ok with their typical advertising scheme which included an induced protest.

There was a nice below the fold article this week in the Wall Street Journal on Kink.com, I was rather impressed that the SF City Hall had no problem with the armory being used for XXX and NC-17 productions. :thumbsup

tony286 02-08-2007 10:47 PM

Im surprised thats happening in san fran and its not like they are doing shoots on the street or have a big neon kink.com sign. People have too much free fucking time.

tical 02-08-2007 10:58 PM

5th and Mission?

isn't there like an old mint right there on one of those corners... or is that the armory? someone told me it was a mint

the one that has the swastika on the light fixtures outside, still to this day

i used to walk from market all the way down to townsend every day to go to work... haha
