"Safe" hex color codes?
I have never in my life used a computer / monitor that wouldn't display any color code. Is this some ancient shit that doesn't matter anymore or am I missing something?

i've been doing this since 98 - that safe web color palette crap didn't matter then and doesn't matter now. it's archaic - must be from the first wave of color monitors which displayed only 256 colors.

it's probalby useful if you want to your page accessible via pda/cell phone, etc, some of these devices are color limited, and graphics will look like shit if you use the wrong colors... this is just a guess though...

here is a good site with the color codes in hex:

It matters alot when you compress any graphics to 256 colours. If you don't use websafe colours, they will not match up and any images will look out of place.
