Austria v/s Switzerland
Are Austria and Switzerland quite different from a tourist point of view?
Also, is there any skiing to be done in Austria at this time of the year? Which city would be good for that? |
While Austria has more culture (Vienna, Salzburg, Graz ...) Switzerland is more expensive.
I guess for skiing both countries are quite similar. They both have all-year resorts (glaciers) ... and until end of April/mid May also many other resorts will have enough snow (thanks to some technological help ;-) - Otto - P.S.: Did I forget to mention I am Austrian? :rasta |
Oh, sorry, I thought you meant Australia;) It used to be that if you said you were Australian everyone, especially on the ski slopes, thought you were Austrian. I guess that has changed since the last winter Olympics. We are just about to come into our winter - should be ready to ski by about July - oh and you can still swim in our tropics at the same time. Did this a few years ago - skied for a week at Thredbo and Perisher and then went snorkling/water skiing/parasailing on the Great Barrier Reef for a week.
If you are into Cookoo clocks though, I would definetly stick to Switzerland/Austria. |
Sticks
where it is possible to go skying around Sydney ? |

Sticks where it is possible to go skying around Sydney ? --------- You can jump out of a plane or helicopter anywhere in Sydney ;) If you want to go skiing, you need to go 5-6 hrs by car Southwest from Sydney, to various ski fields - the most popular being Thredbo and Perisher. It takes about an hour to fly there. I bet you guys have never seen kangaroos in the snow. |

for historical stuff + culture -> Austria |
if you go to Austria, then drive to Slovakia .... it's about 25 miles from Vienna and you will see the most beautiful girls there... really strange : in vienna, all the girls are blonds and fat while in Bratislava, they all look like Eva Herzigova.... It's also a great place if you want to shoot some content.... you can go in a restaurant for about 5$ and spend a night in a great hotel for 20$...
Bratislava is heaven on earth..... |
Switzerland has great skiing but is very very expensive. Austria has skiing that is just as good for much less and there is lots to see. Innsbruck is an absolutely beautiful city with lots to do and tonnes of skiing.
Cheers, Muffy |
Sounds good. But I dont think I'd have time for that if I've to get any skiing done.
|
You are always welcome for some skiing in the desert of Israel, it will cost less then Austria and Switzerland for sure :Graucho
|
Goto Austria......if you want for skiing I can recommend you...
Vorarlberg.....silvretta nova ski resort.... towns like gortipol, schruns, and gashruns....(hope I spell it right) the area is also know as Montafon..... it's not very touristic, and excellent slopes you can ski for 2 weeks without taking the same slope twice. For gletcher skiing....Kaprun is good, the gletcher is called: Kitzsteinhorn and you can ski all year..... other famous place but very busy is brixen in talen <-- or however they spell that Of course there is also Isgl but that is expensive... Switzerland.....if you want to burn money.....St Moritz DynaMite :thumbsup |
Which o fthese are on teh west side of Austria? I plan to drive there by car from Rome and would prefer to stick to the western side, like Innsbruck and Lech.
|
All of these are in the west and close to innsbruck Tirol and Salzburgerland those are the best ski places and are in the west.
DynaMite |
If there is still enough snow (there is right now) go to ISCHGL.
You´ll have lots of fun there ´caus of that thing called après-ski :) It´s the greatest Party AND skiing in Austria. Pretty close to Insbruck too. |
