Do the Pic Hunter stats show the number of clicks on each thumb?

xApster 04-09-2002 12:49 PM

Why don't you shell 7 bucks out and see ? its not like its goign to break the bank

Pichunter's stats only show impressions, but you can probably link to a click-counter if you need that information (I just check my PayCounter stats to see how many came from each page).

Seems like it would be an easy stat for the webmaster to add. So that I'm clear, when you buy "impressions", you are buying impressions for the thumb that is on the Pic Hunter page, which you then link to your gallery, right? Wouldn't it be really easy for the webmaster of Pic Hunter to just add an out counter to the thumb link and add the "click" stats to the admin area. Then it would be really easy to judge the effectiveness of each thumb.

I'm not saying he should, I'm saying he could. Unless I misunderstand the way it works.

You got it right: he could add a click-counter to the script, but he hasn't (at least not yet). Maybe if enough webmasters request this feature he will add it in the future.

I imagine that function would add an extra load on the server, though, since the script would have to re-connect to the database before sending the surfer off to the gallery.

The script could also send the click data after the user is sent on his/her way. Inserts seem to be hard on some databases, but you can use some sort of memory caching that will let you save up a number of clicks in memory (rather than inserting each one as it happens) and then dump them into the database every five minutes or something. I'm not sure how, but I know it can, and has, been done.
