Peoples with mainstream sites: legal issues about pictures.

Hi,

For those of you with mainstream websites. Is it legal to just use any image you find on the web on your website?
Suppose you see a hi-res image from nasa or a hi-res pic from some famous art site, are there any rules or laws about using pictures from an external source?

wikipedia ->copyrights
>>>>>>> -> fair use

If you did not take the pic, or did not pay to use it, you may not use it.

Period. End of story.

And even if you did take the pic, you must have a release from identifiable people in the pic.

Cheers

In that case there are thousands of websites doing not so legal things.
What about the sites that hotlink pictures ?

And what about google images?
They use the images on serps but dont have copyright over them.

You can use pics/media if you are reviewing it or featuring news about the work itself. Parodies fall under the fair use exemption as well.

If you want to play it safe, just use original cartoons. We do bulk blog toons for as low as $3.25 each (depending on the package you buy and whether B/W or color). Mainstream custom toons that capture the essence of your blog entries/rss feeds. Customized to fit the style and personality of your site.

You can not use it with out permission. Some sites have free photos that you can use, but not for commercial purposes.
