Palm Treo users
What are your thoughts on the Palm Treo 600? There is only a few left at my carrier and then they won't be getting any more in so I'm trying to decide if I should pick it up. Is it worth the $300+2 year agreement? Is their a new model coming out in the next 3-6 months? Would I be better off getting an unlocked one from ebay?
Can't get the blackberry because they say it won't work with their network. |
the 650 is already out and the 700 is coming in the new year.

the Treo 700w with windows mobile 5.0 is coming very shortly in 06

I haven't checked out either of them. Will just have to compare them

I like the palm interface because of the quality of the apps that have already been developed for it. I'm not sure if getting the Windows version makes any sense. Especially because I use my Treo for (pretty fast 144kbs and up sustained trainsfer speeds) internet access for my laptop when on the road. Unlimited Data packages from Sprint are only $15. I use PDA net for this which is a software app designed for the PalmOS. I doubt Microsoft's version will have one anytime soon.
The only drawback to the Treo is the fragility of it. Don't drop it too many times. Other than that it kills the Blackberry 7 ways to Sunday. There is no competition. |
the 650 is nice, real nice :)

I have the 650, but I would wait for the 700 at this point.

i had the 600, i have the 650 now.. they both suck.. go with the new blackberry, or the LG or LV whatever that thing is, thats my next one |
thats hilarious that hey tried to sell you a 600. The reviews on the 600 on not superb. But everyone seems to love th 650...myself included.
Might as well wait though for the 700 which has great early previews. |
My friend tried to sell me his last week for $150. He wasn't too happy with it. I tried it on a 2 days trial period and decided that I'd probably be getting the sony 910 instead
|
Well they haven't got any 650's in especially here because they just opened up. We have been CDMA only up till about a few weeks ago. I can get teh Sony 910 also so shoudl check that one out. Been reading about the 650 so far and looks pretty good.
|
If you need one now, go with the Treo 650. Otherwise, wait for the 700. :2 cents:

check out the motoq it's motorola's pda coming out and is as thin as the razor

I have the Treo 650 w/Cingular. I'm mostly happy with it. There are TONS of apps for this thing. I just bought one that will let me watch 28 channels on my Treo, not too bad!
If you ever need service though, a word of advice. I DESTROYED my screen, and sent it in to get repaired, and followed their directions to the T. When you send in the device, remove EVERYTHING. Stylus, BATTERY, and SIM Tray. They sent my repaired phone back missing the battery and sim tray. It took another 1+week to get them to send me the missing parts. Otherwise, it went ok. If you use MUNDU for Instant Messaging, and have large contact lists (as I do), you will notice it will crash the device and send it rebooting once in a while. This seems to happen when it has a large # of status messages built up and you switch back to that program when it hasn't been onscreen for a while. The camera is so-so. Its only good for documenting something spur-of-the-moment. The color balance and exposure leaves a lot to be desired. But hey, its a PDA/Phone as well, you can't have it all. It is a little annoying not to be able to set the default contact list to be a secific group instead of all....would make searching my desired and most accessed lists a lot faster if it didn't have the obsucre groups included. The 1.17 Cingular update included a voice upgrade that noticeably improved the voice quality on the phone. Signal strength, coverage, and overall quality of phone calls is excellent. Another plus...the memory card loads at the top, not the side like the HP devices, making it much easier to access while holding in your hand. Also, the device size is smaller than some of its competitors, and is more comfortable ergonomically. I think the biggest complaint is that when IM and Email is turned on, it messes with BigB's speakers in the office next to me :-) Regards, Mike B |
If You Have Problems With Rodents Or Other Animals You Could Use The 600 To Throw At Them To Get Them Off Your Front Steps....
Not Sure It Has A Use Beyond That.... Check Out The Samsung 730i If You Are On Verizon |
If you get the 650 - get pTunes. It's better than the Real player, and has nice bank of EQ presets you can make for each style of music you listen too. Plays Windows Media files too - except Windows Media Loseless encoded files.
Get the hybrid stereo headphones/mic, or get an adapter from Radio Shack so you can use any regular sized headphones. With a 1GB memory card, it provides plenty of music time while on trips or even sitting in the dentist's chair. |
I love my 650 and what I understand is that the 700 will be the 650 with windows.
|
I don't have any of those yet but I hope I could even just a 650 next year..
|
IMO wait...........RIM has some serious competition coming. Almost every single Cellular company is rolling out their own version of Push E-Mail basically soon making the Blackberry not an essential item.

Had 600 have 650 now..
600.. screens not very good, camera really sucks. Keys don't lightup so it's a pain to type (IM) at night. Overall Blah. Got 650. very nice screen, outstanding battery life. (I only plug it in for a few hours aver 4th or 5th day) Camera.. still sucks.. but not bad for phone. Video better. With 1 gig card you can record a ton. Good in a pinch but nothing I would show off to anyone. Internet access, sucks. Not device but programs avail. Have service with sprint. But it's the browsers that suck.. if the 700 had the windows interface then you could load the thunderbird browser and at least surf the web like it's spose to be seen. Other than that I really like the phone. Wonder how the windows OS will effect battery life on the 700. Will most likely get the 700 if it's a worthwhile upgrade... if so. 600's will be totally worthless, 650's so so... But only if 700 rocks... have not read anything on 700 so no idea. |
Also had this one in between the 600 and the 650...
http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/16/w...-6700-already/ Very nice.. loved everything about it... but battery life was the WORST! In full use on standard battery about 2 2.5 hours of life total. Because of that returned it and went with 650. |
I only have my T 650 here right now..
|
I'm not familiar with Palm Treo but I want an O2 XDA on my birthday.
