What is your goal of saving up money by new years?

how much do you want to have saved up by new years?

it's also interesting to know how most webmasters use their money... does the average webmaster spend it or coke and whores? or save it well in order to invest it?

let's talk about it!

Need a new bigger more powerful coupe (now have a G35) and I'm looking to relocate to sunnier weather...mabye San Diego...or South Carolina. Also want to start a couple of small offline businesses. Oh ya...and those damn school loans.

the cars are investments, I get to sell and profit off them

Ya I tend to blow my money on clothes too. Just bought a $600 blazer and my phone was $300 after rebate...missed the fucking rebate date so I got stuck paying $400. The week of November 1st shit is going to change. No more blowing money. :disgust

the cars are not investments... Actually the exact opposite....

go for it bro... saving and investing is the way to go

think about the future!

buy a building... and lets say it doesnt even increase in value, just find tenants to pay your mortgage + a few bucks for other problems for 30 years...

in 30 years, you make 10X your downpayment money, 33.3% income per year on your money, not many banks give you that :1orglaugh

bringer 10-02-2005 12:31 AM

webmasters are like most other people... they live well beyond their means. only real difference is webmasters can come on gfy and beg for money to make their 6 benz payments

WiredGuy 10-02-2005 12:31 AM

Honestly, I don't spend money and I live very cheaply, still living in the same old student apartment. I never have seen the need to really enjoy in the luxuries I could get with the savings I've made and I'm just letting it grow for now.

MYYYY cars are investments, jeeze, how many times do I have to explain it?

My father owns a car dealership, where he buys salvage cars, fixes them up, and sells them for profit.

that's what I am gonna do with 1 of my cars, and the other, drive it until I can sell it and break even with what I paid for it

Yeah, that's the weird thing, I haven't had any urges or wanted to really buy anything that was worth the money. The only big thing on my mind I guess is a nice house but I'm undecided as to which city I want to live in which is my biggest draw back at the moment.

RSX is a super hot car, congratz! :thumbsup

I got myself the M3 and the 350z (as investments)

they should both be 100% repaired by next week, and then I get to decide which one to keep and which one to sell

Rictor 10-02-2005 12:45 AM

I'll put the maximum in my IRA for tax deduction purposes, put a little extra towards my mortgage to knock a year or two off my loan, and keep some in savings for emergencies.

BIGTYMER 10-02-2005 12:47 AM

so how does it work really?

Pics of the two? Based on the two cars, I'd lean towards the M3 (assuming its not the convertible).

down payments arent required to buy a home. a 20% down payment will only get you out of mortgage insurance. it basically comes down to the property size and value and who you can rent it too. its really not too hard in smaller cities where you can buy a 3bd2bth @ 2500sq ft for 250k and rent it out for 1200/month which will easily cover your mortgage payment + prop taxes. insurance is cheap as well when its setup as a rental property where the contents arent covered by the homes policy.

buddyjuf 10-02-2005 12:54 AM

hard to believe I know

WiredGuy 10-02-2005 12:56 AM

The M3 actually looks really good, even if it convertible. Just seems odd to get a convertible with Montreal's winters, lol.

WiredGuy, how old are you?

I too still live in my student room even though I could easily afford much more. I don't spend much but when I buy the regular things I have to buy I don't really pay attention to the price. I use most money for re-investments.

26, graduated 3 years ago. Sounds very similiar, I could afford a much better place to I simply choose to re-invest my savings instead of upping my cost of living.

The only SUV's that are really appealing to me are unfortunately the monster gas guzzlers like the Escalade or Navigator. But with gas prices as they are now, screw that!

Still, WG, money is not made only to be saved. What matters in the end is your well-being...

Btw, living in a much bigger place isn't necessarily much more costly.

you basically got a house for a 20% down payment + any bs you have to put up with tenants. risks are possible property damage and 6 month evictions where you get no income.

Let me calculate the figures above using canadian mortgage rates, BRB.

why thank you, let's take it as a 10% down payment and as long of a term as possible

frankfortuna 10-02-2005 01:09 AM

I'm finding that the older I get (I'll be 34 on the 11th), the less I spend. I actually enjoy being somewhat frugal and saving every penny I can for investments or business expansion. I guess after years of accumulation, my needs are diminishing.

I don't have a terribly expensive home, but it is in a prime location across the street from Lake Michigan. I built it in 1993 for $192,000 and paid it off within 10 years. It was recently appraised at $345,000 so my only real personal liabilities are insurance, taxes, and general living expenses.

Yeah, I know, but there's one thing I absolutely hate with a passion is moving. Once I do get a house I want to stay there for a couple years at least. Even with movers, the idea of moving is something I detest. Being a coop student, I moved at least 10 times in 4 years and that was a for 1 bedroom. The idea of moving a much larger amount of furniture and my business is something I'd like to avoid.
