FEMA Chief Relieved of Katrina Duties

WASHINGTON

Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown is being removed from his role managing Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, The Associated Press has learned.

Brown is being sent back to Washington from Baton Rouge, where he was the primary official overseeing the federal government's response to the disaster, according to two federal officials who declined to be identified before the announcement.

And now there are reports that Brownie might have embellished his resume before being hired as head of FEMA.

And that he and other top FEMA officials are crassly underqualified for the jobs they currently hold. That they got these jobs because they were buddies of Dubya.

In 1993, President Clinton nominated James L. Witt as the new FEMA
director. Witt became the first agency director with experience as a
state emergency manager. He initiated sweeping reforms that
streamlined disaster relief and recovery operations, insisted on a new
emphasis regarding preparedness and mitigation, and focused agency
employees on customer service. The end of the Cold War also allowed
Witt to redirect more of FEMA's limited resources from civil defense
into disaster relief, recovery and mitigation programs.
