No she wasn't. Actually she was moderate. John Paul Stevens is the most liberal and he's 85 so his time will be up soon. So look for pretty much 6-3 pro-republican verdicts from the SC in the coming years.

budz 07-01-2005 07:32 AM

we lose more & more freedom ev'day :(

Digipimp 07-01-2005 07:33 AM

I guess you know who is in the supreme court in Finland then? How should i know who is in the US supreme court since stuff like that isn't exactly in the news here.

you are correct - she was the balance that we needed on our side rather than a conservative

Well considering the she was the FIRST ever woman to be on the US Supreme Court yes you should know that. Kind of a historical event. Secondly she's been on the bench for 24 years.

Let's not forget though she was the key vote that enabled Bush to "win" the 2000 election. What might have been if she had used brains that day.

MrVids 07-01-2005 07:46 AM

i've already started talking to an immagration lawyer about moving to Canada. this country is going to be a total train wreck the next 3-10 years.

That was the first thing i thought so, this is REALLY bad news.

Things are going to change for us, in more ways than one.

We're fucked. I couldnt have expected to wake up to worse news.

Agreed :( - this is the type of change that will affect the make-up of the entire court for many many years.

It is hard to say when or if ever we would even see a balance back to the more liberal-middle ground - for once as an American I am glad that I do not live in the USA.

They just showed a shot of Karl Rove with the president before he came out. Beaming and glowing are understatements.

The Senate is the one that will confirm the replacement. As soon as the Democrats object, Frist will pull the nuclear option and the appointee will be confirmed. The loss of getting things done will come afterwards when the Democrats fight everything else on the republican agenda.

mikeyddddd 07-01-2005 08:18 AM

Bush may get to nominate 3 - including the Chief Justice - Rehnquist may not be for long either. The Chief Justice will be a wash, but the other two are gains for the conservative asshats.

So? I'm an American and in school I took a course on WORLD History. They don't teach about America in Finland?

Also so I guess if I asked him who the first man to walk on the moon was he wouldn't know that because he was an American too?

The first woman in the US supreme court is hardly comparable to the first man on the moon. Quit being a jackass.

Nice and intelligent response, don't worry i didn't expect anything less from you.

TheSaint 07-01-2005 09:10 AM

The sky is not falling (yet).

First the dems will use the fillibuster to block any right wing theocrat bush nominates and its likely the Senate will not change the rules to shiut down fillibusters.

Second its likely the next president will be a dem and get to make his own appointments. Under the best scenario, Rhenquest will retire then and Hillary will nominate Al Sharpton. :1orglaugh

Third conservative judges sometimes turn out to be not so conservative, some liberal and moderate judges were appointed by repubs, like Oconner.

Does look very bad though. Look for WWIII in the senate when bush nominates gonzalez or some similar idiot.

The 75-year-old Reagan appointee is considered a moderate conservative and has often cast the pivotal swing vote in major cases.

Compared to the conservatives now she would be considered liberal :2 cents:

ULVideo 07-01-2005 09:35 AM

Perhaps the latest disaster with the New London decision (which, btw, was clearly the liberal side of The Court's boondoggle) pushed her over the edge?
