I doubt your are going to find one. Although the components could be translated, "Schutzstaffel" is after all a name and therefore very specific. That and given what the role of the SS was, I cannot imagine that anyone else's military would want to be considered the equivalent.
|
The exact translation would be 'protection relay'. However, it was more of a death squad during the 3rd Reich in Germany than anything. They were responsible for tons of war crimes, leading idiots into battle and making sure enough people were dying in concentration camps. The Schutzstaffel was basically the 'elite' of the German army under Hitler. Their training was insane and they themselves were insane as well. I hope that clears things up for you. I guess you could translate it as Protection Unit, because the word Staffel in German has one definition as 'Einheit' which translates directly to unit in English.

The best I could come up with is "drone" in the context of colonial ants -- many parallels there -- LOL. It has the convenience of being already a noun, rather than an adjective to which we would have to match a suitable noun if this exercise is to gratify in any way.
Quite simply -- Ant Drones perform a quasi-military (protectionist) function, and also supervise processes. They are ill-equipped to function as decision-making individuals, but rely on a strict manner of communication (which also doubles as an ID-verification system for suspect individuals), and on an advanced delegative organizational structure. j- |
