Actually I think it would be very easy to lose your domains IF THEY ARE NOT LOCKED!
For example what if the email sent ?like the one below? never arrived, for whatever reason ?Spam filter perhaps? Say bye bye to your domain. Attention: William ******* Re: Transfer of *************** GoDaddy.com received notification on 11/11/2004 that you have requested a transfer to another domain name registrar. If you want to proceed with this transfer, you do not need to respond to this message. If you wish to cancel the transfer, you must do so before 15-Nov-04. To CANCEL the transfer: Go to ******************************** and log in if prompted with your username and password. Click the check box by the domain, and click the Decline button. Regards LOCK YOUR DOMAINS NOW! |

The last few days a lot of people were going berserk over the fact that ICANN changed the rules and made it look like they wanna promote domain hijacking. Truth is it's not easier nor harder :2 cents: |

here is an sneakiest way to hijack domains
you get a transfer request email for you to confirm the transfer. you click on the link, log in to cancel or deny the transfer. When what you're actually doing is confirming. BOOM, your domain is gone. Not all transfer requests fuction the same way, some simply require you to click on the link in your email without any further action. |

LOCK your domains. This NATNET article assumes that the legitimate owner will be the one initiating the xfer to NATNET and says that you have to confirm your request at the new registrar before they send a request to the old registrar to xfer your domain. So... what... a domain thief isn't going to confirm the request from the new registrar that they just initiated? :1orglaugh |
get emm locked and that's it
|
Bottom line... LOCK YOUR DOMAINS. Those that advise us to remain calm and not worry, aren't looking at this from all angles.
Nothing wrong with being overly-cautious protecting your domains. and Slav is correct, the hijack attempts have already started. Plus, be EXTRA careful if you're buying domains in private deals. ICANN is our worst enemy. good luck to everyone. |
