Forking over the CC
In just the time span of the last year, (to condense somewhat), I have ATTEMPTED to purchase a number of things online.
CASE #1: I ordered a wide angle lens for my Nikon and some other various attachments. None of it ever came. Oh, they charged my cc alright, but then promptly when to the DOTCOM boneyard. It took me 4 months of collecting data, printing, copying, and faxing to prove MY case to the CC company in order to finally get my money back. CASE #2: I ordered a case of blank CDRs from a city (San Francisco) 30 minutes away. They quickly shipped my order out the same day... to fucking Cleveland. From there it went to Toledo, Sacramento, Albuquerque, and then finally I was told it was lost for good. Two weeks later they found the shipment sitting in Sacramento again but they said it was being sent back to the shipper. Seven weeks later I was refunded. CASE #3: I purchased a very high end component for my audio rack system from a company doing some business on Ebay. Not some schmoe in Buttcrack, Nowhere... but an audio company with a real office. Everything went great, and I got my order in less than a week. But no remote control. Specifically stated as part of the package. After countless emails and dozens of phone calls on which I was told point blank that "It is being shipped to you TODAY"... I have never received it. It is now 9 months later and I've given up any hope of ever getting that remote. CASE #4: A hosting company I was with, (I don't wanna mention any names, but it was CI HOST), had my account crossed with some church organization, which resulted in all of their email sent from a form page was being sent to me. That's fine, it's just a glitch, and I can deal with that. But then this church organization went and got some appraisels on domains and registered 4 or 5 new domains through Register.com (of all stupid fucking places!) at a cost of around $400. Well, guess what. The "hosting" company put it all on MY cc. I called everyone involved so many times I thought the phone would melt. In their defense, Register.com was by far the most helpful of all. But that's it. CI Host would not answer any emails, phone calls.... nothing. I sent complaints about them to the BBB of Texas, Planet Feedback, everywhere I could think of. They denied everything. I had to cancel my bank card and go through a fucking forest of red tape. I never could get ahold of the church organization because they didn't have any phone numbers listed and because of CI Host's fuckup, all their email was coming RIGHT BACK TO ME! This whole ordeal took the better part of half a year with daily attention to it to finally get my STOLEN money back. So..... my point here, is that if this is the kind of experience that a seasoned Net user can expect REGULARLY from our "Oh so wonderful" technology, is it any wonder that people are fucking terrified at the mere mention of the words "Enter your CC"??? I've been struggling like hell and working my ass off day and night to make a living from webmastering... but ya know, it just ain't workin' out that way. I'm not giving it up completely just yet, but as of today, I'm certainly going to be looking for something a little more reliable, honest, and trustworthy to the customers. How can I expect my customers to bust out the CC if I won't do it myself? After all the fucking shit I've gone through this past year with dotcoms fucking up or just outright stealing my money, I'll probably never enter that CC number into another form. I think the Internet is a very amazing thing. I don't think it's a typical fad... but I do think it is eating itself. With all the rampant abuse from every kid that suddenly learns to script code and no controls in place to prevent it whatsoever, the Internet will self-cannablize and ultimately devour itself, imploding in a cloud of anarchy in a very short time if something isn't done soon to control it and bring some fucking trust back to the people who, at one time, thought it was pretty damn cool. My rant is over. Thank you. |
Sorry for your experience...
I have never had problems with using my CC on the Net |
One small step you could take is to put up a page of companies you've blacklisted, giving these reasons why you won't recommend them to anyone.
Then email each company one last time, including the URL http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/biggrin.gif No company I know of likes bad publicity. Sometimes the only thing that gets you results is to threaten them that you'll "go public" and start recommending that others NOT do business with their company. A company rep would have to be pretty brain-dead not to have some reaction to this. Hey, if you can save even one other person from the grief you're describing it will be worth it. <font face="Verdana">___________ CD http://members.home.net/cyberdogs/An...cool_shine.gif * <a href="http://www.erasercash.com/wm.html?ID=1380291" TARGET="_blank"><font face="Verdana" color="#FFCCCC">ERASERCASH!</font></a> Earn $35 per sale + webmaster referrals 4 LEVELS DEEP</font> * <a href="http://www.topbucks.com/affiliate/clickthru.cgi?id=1448" TARGET="_blank"><font color="#FFFFDD"> $40/signup, $50/recur, 65% partnerships</font></a> + free content, free daily galleries! * <a href="http://www.stiffycash.com/?referer=cdsmith" TARGET="_blank"><font color="#FFCCFF">Make $35 per $1.95 Trial!!</font></a> +Free content!
