Sometimes their banner rotates on the GFY screen - but I couldn't find the offer on their website either http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/confused.gif

DarkJedi 08-23-2001 01:54 PM

well, I think you all missed the point - was that a sarcasm Lens ? 150$ per Megabyte ?
Seems a bit higher than everywhere. I pay 2$ per 1 Gigabyte.

well, maybe I got it wrong after all.

Hot Tropical Babes 08-23-2001 02:42 PM

Smartypants - $150 per megabyte would be $150,000 per gigabyte transfer a month http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/rolleyes.gif... cough... but $150 bet Mbit transfer is a pretty good price...

I don't believe so.
For example, in our Dallas facility, we have lines from Qwest, Level3, UUNET, Exodus and a few others, it doesn't make us a reseller. It just means that we get bandwidth from these companies and provide services that they don't.

$150 a meg = $150 a megabit in my book.

I got it off the banner. It looks like a great deal!

150 a mb/s seems VERY cheap to me. I have purchased bandwidth in the past from servenet
for 220 a mb/s (capped), but i was also consuming 75 mb/s a month.

Please contact me on ICQ. I'm sure we have something to meet your needs (but a little higher than $150/meg). (am I going to get shot for this post?)

It's odd that they bought ad space and created an ad for something that they do not even mention on the web site that ad points to.

$150/Mbps seems too good to be true, but it really depends on the billing method and minimum required commitment.

mr. mpg 08-23-2001 04:38 PM

McPornGuy,
750 is not all that high for burstable bandwidth. When you see people talking about paying 150-300 range it is for capped, meaning that their is no possible way to exceed bw that has been paid for. A perfect example of why you would buy it like this would be for tgp gallery posting on a domain.

$150/Mbps is very good, and I am sure they have certain terms that you need to meet to get it.

Dynamichosting offered me $140/Mbps for a project I was talking to them about. The pricing on their site is great, and this is a great program I am thinking about running.

I think prices are falling, and if you are a big customer you can definitely get great numbers.

McPornGuy 08-23-2001 06:47 PM

it still seems expensive the only reason I have stayed there was its supposed to be on a good level3 backbone and in the past its always had 99.9% uptime. and i believe you get what you pay for. lately it really seems to be sucking bad,if I burst over 2.0mbps the server is starting to crash and tech support has no fucking clue on what they are doing or how to fix it! they say they will put me on another supposedly new server with dual 800P3's for no extra charge.

but still wanting to find a new host the only thing is I have already tried moving twice and ended up right back at the same host because the other two i tried ended up sucking so bad. how do i know who i can trust? I really dont care if I save money by moving I just want fast speeds and support that knows what they are doing, and are able to set me up with all the fancy new junk thats out there. lol

my current package is
Plll 800Mhz
512MB RAM
1 MBPS
1,000 a month

McPornGuy 08-23-2001 06:50 PM

I just seen that candid banner, it says "as low as $150 per MB" so thats probly if you are going to be using 100MBPS you could get that price.

anyone want to split it? lol

RK 08-23-2001 06:56 PM

McPornGuy, we have a connection to Level 3 and six other lines. Feel free to contact me by email or ICQ and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have and give you a free test account on one of our servers so you can test the speed.

floridaT 08-24-2001 09:13 AM

Their is a minimum floor obviously on that price. It is to attract the bigger bandwidth user large programs and content providers. Which there are several using large amounts that pay too much for what they use. Just because you don't use large amounts of bandwidth doesn't mean we still won't give you the best price. If anyone would like more info ICQ me I will clarify.

ICQ#100535057

Hope this isn't spam just trying to answer anyones question on the price. And no the website pricing is not up to date sorry.

That's exactly it.. I asked them about it, and it took the senior sales rep some time to figure out what I was talking about, but he eventually said it was for 100mbps/day sustained.

Cheers,

Imagine how cheap posting movie galleries on The Hun will be at those prices!

gooddomains 09-05-2007 01:17 AM

I remember bandwidth prices back in 1997.....

rowan 09-05-2007 01:19 AM

The pricing off links in RK's sig also seem to be an unbelievable deal!

http://energyhosting.com/payg.html

- 100GB of transfer for only $187

http://energyhosting.com/highbw.html

- 800MHz Celeron with 128MB RAM, 20GB HD and 1Mbps bw for only $270/mo

sicone 09-05-2007 01:21 AM

holy thread bumps

KrisKross 09-05-2007 01:24 AM

800 MHz Celeron... eesh.

Martin3 09-05-2007 01:30 AM

holy fuck hosting was expensive back then :helpme

baddog 09-05-2007 01:34 AM

Remember when it cost more to host adult than mainstream?

Pornwolf 09-05-2007 01:35 AM

An 800 mhz Celeron used to get taxed with 1 major gallery listing.

It's amazing how far the hosting business has come. I wonder if they are more profitable now than they were before. Prices were so high back then that it HAD to allow for a nice markup that no one would have noticed.

Yeah, now the tables have completely turned.

Here's another one... remember when Lensman used to post threads almost everyday that weren't just Adult.com/Playboy announcements?

pr0 09-05-2007 02:22 AM

150$ per mbps was actually a great price in 01'....

i remember paying $100 a month for a 25gig plan

thats right $100...for burning 25 gigs total in a month, that was in ummm 00'

before that...jesus, you should have seen the prices in 98

anyways

candid hosting was pretty much the only gig in town for many years....& i know some people that were paying over 100$ per mbps up until 2 years ago with them, because they were on 3-4 year contracts :1orglaugh

remember when the very first adult hosts would ask for your registrar login to change your DNS servers for you & then gank your $1,000,000 domains

i do.......circa 1997

RAM 09-05-2007 03:10 AM

wow another blast from the past

Angie77 09-05-2007 06:31 AM

how can they afford that deal?

Snake Doctor 09-05-2007 06:50 AM

Oh man this is hilarious.

The downside to bandwidth prices dropping like a rock is that now it's uber cheap to give away a shitload of porn movies.
When bandwidth was $150 a meg it was hard to find a members area that had downloadable movies...forget about free sites.

Now tube sites give away full reality episodes for a few cents in bandwidth to make money with dating ads. Pretty sick.

stev0 09-05-2007 08:59 AM

haha, i didn't realize this was an old thread. I was reading it and thinking "why the fuck do these people pay so much?".

Brad Mitchell 09-05-2007 09:14 AM

Oh man what a cool bump. Love it! :)

So true. There was a much higher barrier to entry back then as well.

There were no bannerless free hosts other than Revshare Hosting.

Well, that's not true... Terra.es was the movie host of choice back then. Haha
