Vector Force vs. Westmaster - help quick!
 

I signed up for Vector Force last night, received the invoice, and they are now awaiting payment to activate my account.

BUT, I also received an email this morning from Westmaster tech support that I sent yesterday evening, before I signed up for Vector Force.

Here is how they compare...

Now, any thoughts on these would be appreciated. I'm tempted to go with Westmaster, as the overage/gb is cheaper. I was talking to Don from Vector Force last night. Nice guy, approachable. But now I receive this from Westmaster.

As far as I know, both are great companies (yah I've seen Web_Mistress' thread, probably just a screw up) and I've heard nothing but good about both hosts.

Any ideas?

Like I said, I was talking to Don last night on ICQ. Can't say anything bad about him, nice guy. Wouldn't like to disappoint him, but this isn't about disappointing people, this is about business.

I'm trying to be sucessful in business here. From where I stand now, Westmaster is the cheapest of the two. But, the cheapest is not necessarily the best. Or is that the most expensive? Well, whatever. I'm torn between two companies here.

So it's a fight to the death, VF vs. WM. Any comments appreciated.

The only thing I would look carefully at when comparing the deals that MIGHT make Vector cheaper is how many domains and IP's do you plan on having? That monthly fee from westmaster might make them more costly if you are going to have very many domains or IP's. Also you get more than 2times the storage space at Vector (again, if that's relevant for you...you MIGHT not need all that). I definitely see your point on the cheaper bandwidth, though.

Anyway, the amount of space, number of domains, and number of IP's might make a difference in your choice. :-)

I won't require too many domains - 1 for avs sites, 1 for free sites.

Storage space is not an issue either. I'll need about 300 megs. So that's a +$100 one time fee to Westmaster. Vector Force give 500mb, but maybe the extra cost from Westmaster will be balanced out eventually due to their cheaped bandwidth overage?

It's a tough decision between two great companies...

I forget who it is, but there is a girl here that uses vector, and highly recommends them.

I feel bad for forgetting who it was. Maybe she'll see this and reply. You'll know who she is because, she advertises them in her signature: "may the force be with you"

All I can tell you is this:

"Be very careful with this company.
Their unlimited bandwidth is only unlimited until you reach their limit.

I signed up with them for TGP galleries and read the TOS very closely.

It was only after I started getting hits that they couldn't handle the traffic and moved me to another server and then charged my credit card, curiously enough the exact amount of credit I had left, for extra bandwidth.

After I contacted them they told me the unlimited bandwidth was only up to their limit.

Didn't make sense but I moved everything I had there very quickly.

Just be careful. They are not what they seem."

this was posted not long ago on AWI... and there was a huge stink about that very thing all over the place....... While I don't know them... things like this kinda make me a bit edgy!!

What I can tell you about Vector is this:

If Don says it then it's damn well so... if he ever intended to cap anything, he'd say so..... if he says he will do it then he will do that and then some....... he's about one of the most straight up and honest people I know and would never mislead you..... he's been in the adult business a long damn time and knows how very important it is to have a host that allows you to sleep at night knowing it will be there when you wake up with no damn surprises. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif

Hope I didn't step on any toes.. I just watch what is said and call them as I see them..... and Vector has yet to have even one nasty thing thought, much less said, about him.

I don't know if I would recommend Westmaster right now or not, I'm currently moving to a new host from them.

I don't know, maybe they are right, but my webalizer stats show I have used about 48KB, but their "IP SERVER LOGS" show I have used 80+MB. From the research I am doing it is normal to have some variance, but not this much.

To give them credit, I am trying to track down possible culprits. They say I have uploaded 20GB to my server so far this month?
(btw, english is NOT their first language, so e-mail communication is challenging)

The only thing I can think of it might be is:
Hotlinkers I can't find (don't show up in webalizer)
strip poker/black jack games from Wicked Content that pulls shockwave files from their site. I have written Wicked to ask if this might be where it is coming from. I shure as HECK haven't uploaded 19GB of files this month...all my sites combined are about 100MB.

They just sent me a bill today for $100 to try and get me to purchase more bandwidth. I posted URL's for pics I took of stats, and people on 2 boards have told me they can't view images. Just had boneprone look at my one site and image not showing up.

Looked at my SexTracker sites for one site, and I have 16,000+ visits and 10,000+ reloads....jeeze, think they might have a problem getting pages to load right the first time?

Anyways, since I am still an newbie, it might be legit, and it might be all my fault. But I found a host that is located about 10miles from my house that speaks english that I am going with that has comparable rates...and 1 month free if you sign up in April. Firgured I'd give them a shot.

1. we do not offer any inferior service, we have simply such low price because we buy bandwidth probably cheaper than others

2. regarding stats problem, see forum again, we count all traffic on your own IP on both directions and ports. That's why webalizer is not accurate. Even this customer start using lot in incoming direction which Apache does not count at all.

You have to understand it there have to some limits, to offer account with 40% server load 600GB for $39 is simply impossible.

Ok in this section here I see a couple of things that disturb me a little.... now mind you I only know if the damn sites are up or down and I don't know alot of the techie things......... but

I see unlimited plans and then I see that there are limits...... how can you say you are selling an umlimited plan when there ARE limits? Can someone please explain this to me where maybe I can understand it? This would confuse the hell out of me too.....

please keep in mind I am not too damn bright on the techie side......... LOL

BTW, Tam, When my sites get back up (explained the prob in redshoe's "where is everyone" post) with all mt probs, recently with ISPs, I'm really leaning towards Vector.

Since it is you that has been the main factor in my decision...how can I give you the credit? Do I just tell them I was referred by you? Will that do you any good? Will you get some free shit out of it?
