For the rest, assuming Sydney for whatever reason was getting the ok there was no way on earth to be able host the olympics in 3 months from now and have security that would not remind a 3rd world country. Countries are getting prepared for years and still a lot of problems occur during the games. Atlanta had top security, but this didn't prevent the olympic park bombing where one woman was killed and several people were wounded.

If you want to believe Sydney's olympics were better than Athens believe it. Truth is you haven't seen Athens olympics yet. Fair enough :)

On the news last night here in Australia the Officials for the torch relay said they are not even disclosing the route until closer to the event
so no way would they take on hosting the whole event :1orglaugh
