How do I...

make NT see index.html as a default page? default.htm is inconvient and I don't have any access to configuration. Does IIS support some sort of htaccess where I can add index.html?

webserver = freebsd

Linux was build to conquer the desktop one day so it has too many add ons and features (that are not used for web hosting ;) that will FUCK THINGS UP.

Well.. not really.. Linux is OK but if you want rock solid stable hosting for high traffic sites go freebsd.. i have production webservers running on freebsd with uptimes over 6 months
and shit gets tough sometimes!!

FreeBSD or if you need some of the features, NetBSD can also do in a pinch, but definitely a flavour of BSD. (Well, not OpenBSD or PicoBSD for obvious reasons but, whatever) :)

not just that: you have to add the text

"please dont refresh this page" to your pages to prevent it from crashing.

IIS is ideal for intranets and corporate use.. not for public services.
