Does TIVO make your picture worse?

Just got it and it makes my picture look worse. I tried S-Video but that somehow looks worse than the RF input. Is this normal?

No, it shouldn't. Check the quality of your cables...

Oh oh oh I bet I know what it is.

They have high/medium/low recording quality depending on how much HD space you want show to take up. I keep mine on high..never had a problem.

You may be recording at low or medium quality, which WILL affect picture pretty dramatically.

I have heard that it "compresses" the image quality on some systems. A friend with Comcast here returned it cause the quality was crap. Probably the older version of Tivo though.

Oh maybe I got a cheap one and it's compressing it so it can record more?

The only reason I don't have HDTV is because Tivo doesn't support HDTV right now.

Tivo is God's Machine

Depends on the tivo you have. if your have a stand alone one than you are going form your source into the tivo, then recompressing that source..

if you have a direct tivo combo unit no compression is done since there is no digital to analog conversion required.

HDTIVO due out this spring..

TIVO doesn't work with HDTV as far as I know, were you high def before?

I have HDTV and TIVO. There's nothing wrong with having both. If you need to TIVO something that's also in high def, you just TIVO it in regular def. But you can always watch high def live if you want. Just switch to component.
