McDonald's

Do you think McDonald's has a future.

This was once a huge firm. But now it seems old.

In the UK the popularity is going down hill.

All news reports is that they are struggling.

So do you think they will be in business in 5 years?

mailman 01-28-2004 10:49 AM

Quarter Pounder 4 Life!

liquidmoe 01-28-2004 10:50 AM

They got a bit of stock boost when they debuted their new logo, maybe the popularity is down in England but I think its as strong as ever in the US.

axelcat 01-28-2004 10:50 AM

More and more people are staying away from fast food joints

Well personally speaking. I know most of my friends and neighbors skip McDonalds and head for either Burger King or Taco Bell if they want fast food. McDonalds is not what it use to be when i was growing up. :2 cents:

Fappeddotcom 01-28-2004 10:53 AM

More of their revenue comes from rent than from food sales so yes, they'll be around for a long long time.

Big Mac ... mmmm.

AndrewKanuck 01-28-2004 10:56 AM

They'll continue to expand into markets that will give them new business:

omg :1orglaugh

DVTimes 01-28-2004 10:59 AM

The problem with McDonald's is that I cannot see how they can change. after all they are a burger bar.

In the UK there seems to be a wave of adverts for McDonalds, with a new slogan "we are loving it".

I was always annoyed how they targeted children.

When I was young McDonalds was new and exciting - but now, it seems old, and out of date. Its a place I would feel embarrassed to go to.

I would think if any bad news reports came out, it would kill the company dead.

I just cannot see how it can turn itself around.

Plus £1 (one UK pound) seems very expensive for a few chips. You can go to a fish'n'chips shop and get a HUGE bag for 80p.

pradaboy 01-28-2004 11:03 AM

do you ever see a Mac that's slow on business? No matter where they are located they always have customers!

MAc is one of the best marketing machines in the world :2 cents:

yeah same here i dont eat mcds, if i want fast food i go and get BK much better....

block 01-28-2004 11:05 AM

Mc Donalds is very popular here in Canada (at least where I live). Maybe people in uk are starting to wise up to fast food and not eat it as often.

kbut 01-28-2004 11:10 AM

$4.5 billion in sales last quarter, and over 1.5 million employees worldwide. I'd take any bet that they'll be around in 5 years.

Manowar 01-28-2004 11:12 AM

Mcdonalds will remain, although i think there will be less of them in 5 years - there everywhere at the moment

Chris E 01-28-2004 11:14 AM

McDonalds is rank, I can't believe anyone eats that shit. BK is better but still pretty poor. Nothing can beat a home made steak burger! Oh yeah... come to daddy!

BobChezule 01-28-2004 11:16 AM

They're getting buried by all these healthy food places. They've tried to come up with a sensible menu, but the sensible stuff tastes like crap.

Head 01-28-2004 11:16 AM

Well in North America They're huge! I don't think they'll go out of business anytime soon!

chrisp420 01-28-2004 11:17 AM

ever *really* look at that "meat" your eating?

1) It still is a huge firm, about $18 Billion a year, and net income has grown over the past four quarters

2) Yes it will still be in biz in 5 years (stupid question)

Oh no - you're not supposed to do that at McD - just eat it and think of something else.

Milena Dickman 01-28-2004 11:44 AM

Hi there!

McDonald's is huge here in Brazil too. There are shops everywhere here in Sao Paulo.

But they're slowing down on business as well. For sure there is always customers, but not how it used to have. I believe last year they closed a shop for the first time since they first stablished here.

I know some people who stopped eating there as a boycott to US (those weekend ativists always think that McDonald's is the root of all evils, lol). But most doesn't go because of pricing.

A couple of years ago McDonalds was the cheapest place around for you to eat a fair burguer: it was around 5 reais a bigmac, coke and fries. Now it's almost 10 reais. You can eat in much better places for that price around here.

I believe they will be around for while. But they are losing it.

kisses,

Milena

foolio 01-28-2004 12:57 PM

McDonalds is not food in any way.

Illicit 01-28-2004 01:52 PM

Without McDonals I will starve ! They better be around

Rich 01-28-2004 01:55 PM

Many countries will collapse before McDonalds goes under.

puresexnow 01-28-2004 03:41 PM

I used to write accounting software... one of my customers was an abattoir...

When the cow got chopped up, the best cuts went to supermarkets/local butchers, all the rubbish: hooves, tails, ears, cartelage, gristle went to the nearby McDonalds patty plant.

But I still love it.

Haha that's good to know... :Graucho I eat fastfood maybe once a month now at the most.

laura99 01-28-2004 03:53 PM

I don't think McDonald's will ever go out of business. They might close a few stores but they'll open new ones somewhere else.

pornoshare 01-28-2004 05:00 PM

I think if they have finally got their shit together, sure it may have taken them 10 years to realise that they can charge higher prices if they offer healthier food, but they finally have.

We have just got the salads plus bars in Australia and they seem to be doing very well.

flashfire 01-28-2004 05:02 PM

This healthy "fad" won last forever but they are starting to change with the times....they will be okay

On-top 01-28-2004 05:16 PM

McDonald's is a real estate company. They are one of the largest landowners in the world, owning land in high value and rapidly growing markets. They will continue to find ways to make money from that land, and work into other industries.

They have also started expanding their other chains, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Donatos Pizza, to benefit from other demographics.

In 5 years they'll be here without a doubt americans will always keep them busy.

AbulletAway 01-28-2004 06:37 PM

I think the problem with so many McDonald's is most are independently owned. They hire the most ghetto people they can find. They can't take an order without looking at the pictures and they still can't get the order straight.

The McDonald's by me is so ghetto. It sucks! Last week I went to pick up my kids. We stopped at the McDonald's by their house. It's a much nicer area. I couldn't believe the difference. It was like walking in to a four star restaurant. The girl taking my order smiled, she tried to up sell me, and said please and thank you. They got my order right the first time and everyone in the place seemed happy. Then we get the food and take it home. The burgers looked nice. None of them were crushed, the fries weren't over done. God it was amazingly perfect. It was the way I used to think of them. I got so used to it being such a ghetto place I started to think of them as ghetto. So I think it all depends on the area the McDonald's is in.

Ya, they'll be around forever I think.

block 01-28-2004 06:38 PM

Yeah some mcdonalds are really dirty too, pretty nasty.

rigrunner 01-28-2004 06:39 PM

macdonalds wont ever go out of business
it isnt that popular in the UK because of what you get for the price but its a kids place anda quick meal

i think it will be around forever

dablond 01-28-2004 06:40 PM

Unfortunately McDonalds will be here when hell freezes over. They are my least favorite burger joint.

WankTank 01-28-2004 06:46 PM

I'd rather go to Harveys and get a veggie burger :BangBang:
