Wine Recommendations - HELP!
I'm having a date come over for dinner tomorrow. A few weeks ago she invited me over and made lobster. The wine she chose was perfect. I don't want to look like a chump but frankly I know NOTHING about wine.
I am making filet mignon, rice, salad, and got some cheescake factory cheescake for dessert. Is there any wine that will go well with all of that? |
what is your price range?
|
Regular Gasoline - its cheaper :thumbsup

ok with the meat you are serving I would suggest a nice Chardonnay for white and Cabernet Sauvignon for red.
For Cabernet I would suggest .... Cape d'Estaing - Austrailan Wolf Blass - Austrailan Masi - Italian For Chardonnay I would suggest... Antinori - Italian Masi - Italian :thumbsup |
If you are going with a nice steak I would say that a
pinot noir or merlot should go well. If you don't have a lot of experience with wine then most of the labels in the 40 to 50 dollar range should do fine. |
Heineken.
Wine sucks. |

Rossi goes good with dank over ice
9%:glugglug 'Take her to the telly let the wine fill her belly Fired up some smelly then ya jammin' like jelly Bust a couple of nuts, hit the butt and than the grill Dick hard like I did time up in Vacaville' |
Coppola - Merlo or their Cab mix, Sryah is also nice for Fillet. This is also at most wine stores.
Port is also a fantastic after dinner drink. Dont forget to lay out some cheese as the appitizer ( Triple Cream brie from St Andres is better than dope, Some Stilton Blu, Smoked Gouda and port wine cheese with some really nice crackers. That will be BIG pimpin) Slice all on a nice plate / platter. Toss 2-3 kinds of mustard up in very small dishes and you are set man. Tunes - www.somafm.com - Secret Agent station on in the background and you are all set. GET THIS BOOK http://www.sweetartdesign.com/shoppi...locale-us.html once you have that, you never again will need to wonder. |
I like this one, and I usually don't like reds.

Buy a safe red wine. I would recommend Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon. It should cost around $25.
|
young guys don't know wine. for 40-50 get a nice Ridge Zinfandel or a single vineyard Ravenswood Zinfandel.
|
Rosemont Shiraz. It is australian and the Aussies do wonderous things with shiraz. It was also rated a 93 in wine spectator. It is smooth and delicious and requires very little decanting.

Seghesio Old Vine Zinfandel
7 Deadly Zins Clos du Bois Merlot Paradigm Merlot Estancia Cab Kenwood Jack London Cab My best suggestion to you is to go to the nicer grocery or a wine store and ask for recommendations. For 50 bucks a bottle in the store you can get the equivalent of a 100 bottle in most nice restaurants. You may also want to consider buying two bottles -- if so I'd go with a Steele Pinot Noir to start out with and then move to one of the bottles above with the steaks. And a nice bottle of wine doesn't detract from the flavor of a steak, it should complement it. |
The new kind of wine called Jager
|
I like the Beringer Founders Estate, Merlot for the filet. 1997-1999 should do fine and won't set you back much.

I agree 100% with the Ridge selection - link below: http://www.ridgewine.com/wines/Lytton_springs.tml |
Chianti $20-$30
Brunello $45-$100 Any Bordeaux is good to $20-#40 |

You should check out Limerick Lane, Mauritson, and some of the Joesph Swan offerings. All good buys. Personally, I'd go with a Syrah or a Bigger Pinot Noir. Both will have some acidiy and tannins that will be cut by the beef making them come off rich and smooth. Go to a good shop and explain what you are after and you price range, and they should be able to set you up. What city are you in? |

I have to say.. Kimmy knows her wines.. but any bottle that cost you $50 in a grocery store will run ya over $250 in a restaurant.. hell they charge $40 for a $6 bottle of cheap wine in most restaurants...:2 cents: |
Kimmy def knows her wines! I personally like the DeLoach Zinfandel...it's from Cali,
Lenswood Cab Liberty School Kenwood Leaping Lizzard Merlot (really nice spicey finish) Penfold's Shiraz (australian) Cain Five (a lil pricey but realllllly good) depends on how u'r going to do the filet...also just go to a wine store and hit the vintage section, they usually carry some great wines for a great price...:2 cents: |

The Dry Creek Valley, home of some of the best Zinfandel vineyards in the world . . . |

I think a nice Red like Merlot would be a good choice when serving red meat. Blackstone has a good merlot. Its medium price range. |
whichever wine that will get her the most drunk i say

The cheaper wines do get marked up more, but you just cant make a cheap wine good by upping the price ;) Anything from Jordan or Jarvis are also good choices, Jordan can usually be found under 50 as well. |

Call her up on the telephone at the last minute....act frantic...and have her pickup a 6 pack of beer on her way over. You don't want her to think your some sissy or worse.
|
Thanks everyone. You rule! I went to the wine store and bought 2 bottles
Paradigm Merlot (which the clerk recommended also) Deloach Zinfandel I thought maybe with 2 bottles here I can just have her pick one. |
