I remember when I first got doom on Sega 32x. I hooked all my stuff into the stereo, turned off the lights, and left the door cracked a few inches.

I felt like a 5 year old again with the adrenaline from jumping in a hole only to find some hell spawn trying to eat my face. And those damn things sneaking up on you from behind would startle the shit out of you.

Damn, that screen shot for the original Resident Evil looks horrible. So does Doom when I look back.

But playing it at the time... I dunno. Maybe it's just a person's imagination that kicks in, but I remember them looking so much better.

I think people were forced to imagine how it would look if it were real then.... and so years later, they remember back thinking that it did look awesome.

And now, to look at these new games.. the old ones just looked so bad!

I have to agree with Resident Evil. My wife was playing while she was pregnant, and it kept giving her contrations because she jumped every time a zombie or something jumped out.

clive barker's undying was extremely scarey up through about halfway then it turned into more average fps fare.
