dvd quality compression - need some help

So lets say i want to sell 1 hour movies.

I have the film on dv tape.

I make the master copy on my harddrive and then burn it on dvd.

What compression should i use to get dvd quality?

Also a 1 hour movie uncompressed is gonna be HUGE...are there way to do this in 4 steps or so?

Make 15 mins of video, compress it, burn it and repeat that 3 times?

Cheers.

:eek7 Please repeat the question??

Seriously im not sure about the question??
are you taking video off your hard drive to DVD or vice versa
and what software are you using??

doober 10-25-2003 07:17 PM

Im not sure but seems to me that there is no compression to DVD.
I would think that the DV tape holds the master 720x480 video and you just tranfer it to your drive and burn it, but then again how do you make VOB files to burn on the DVD?

Shit now i have to go do some research

:(

Well the main question now is:
I have an uncompressed vid on harddrive which i want to burn on a dvd.

What compression do i need to use to make a dvd quality movie.

Hey Yo Bat:

I'm going through that too...you'll find, on this board, most are resellers, and very few are producers...

What software do you use? I'm on Premiere 6.5, and I like it cause there's lots of default settings for whatever I need...for example, there's one already set and ready to go for MPEG2, and once I slice and dice, I can dump it to my HD and burn the DVD.

I'm finding that a 30 minutes of vid is about 10 gigs worth of HD space as an .avi file...so I can actually be working on 5 - 6 scenes and with 180 gigs not worry too much about it...however, I have one maching soley for video work....

Yes, you do...this is where I'm kinda stuck...I bought Roxio, and it's kinda cool...and all I've managed was to take the huge 10 - 11 gig gfile and try and burn it to 2 or 3 DVD's....Roxio's software will allow multiple disc burns...however, all I'm getting here is hang-ups between the first and second DVD...ugh.
