Answers to Questions about Jury Duty
What happens if I don't show up?
The judge, court staff, attorneys, and fellow jurors expect you to arrive prepared for jury selection on time. The judge has the authority to authorize the Sheriff or Constable to apprehend jurors who fail to appear.

Failure to report for jury service carries a penalty of up to a $1000 fine, and in some instances, the judge can hold you in contempt of court and confine you to jail. Payment of a fine will not discharge you from jury service. You can still be required to serve even if you are fined.

Jury duty is an honour not a drudge. Be thankful you live in a country which allows you the right to sit on a jury.

Go and say sorry and ask the judge to forgive you. With any luck he will think you are such an idiot he does not want you on a jury.

Yeah, when I received the letter for the Jury duty I really wanted to be selected but it didn't happen. They say it's a great experience.

Is jury duty a random thing or do you have to apply?

aflex 09-22-2003 08:30 AM

a professor i had told me once that you can get out of jury duty when they screen you/meet with the prosecutor.. just make it clear you believe everyone is innocent no matter what, and they'll dismiss you from jury duty..

theres an actual term for this, but it slipped my mind

If you don't go, then you don't have the right to complain about anything that is wrong with this country... It's the same as assholes whom don't vote yet complain about the people that run the country.. if you can't give up a few days for your country then you shouldn't be given any of it's rights... jmo

who 09-22-2003 08:35 AM

I agree.

Not quite, it's a matter of time. I have other obligations which were more important... besides there has to be at least one other jurror out there who can see a guilty man just by looking at em. Put me on the stand... yeah thats a great idea. ;P

everyone has other obligations... the 1st and last time I was called for jury duty...I had just started a new business, so needless to say I didn't have the time to go.. on top of that it was for a case that could have lasted a few weeks.. I still went and spent my day.. didn't get picked but if I were I would have served... ofcourse it would have fucked up my new business... However I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to start that business in a country with out the rights I have here..

Just think about this... if you were faceing a prison term for CP, but you didn't do it.. would you want to trust your future in the hands of a jury that didn't have a job and the only reason they were there was to get the little paycheck ?

Sounds like a federal charge.

Armbed robbery and the like take away your ability to own a gun or vote in this country.

:winkwink:

Yeah, but then again with my tempermant I would vote guilty and try to hang the fuck just for wasting my time. I may be short tempered but at least I know whats best for others before I act ;).
