Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM. They are solid, will last forever and you will pay accordingly.

I've had a sony vaio and a dell. VAIO is high on flash, but flimsy unless you buy one of the models that are the size of a tank.

The Dell felt like it was made out of My First Laptop material. I'm told some models are just rebaged OEM and that could have been why, but honestly I don't want to have to think about this shit when buying a laptop. I buy an IBM, it works forever, and I'm happy.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 also.. saved a few bucks by getting 'refurbished' and if it was one that was ever used, I sure can't tell it.

Go for one of the new over priced alienware laptops, kick ass colors, what more could you want form a laptop other than a nice color that will stand out :Graucho

Stay away from Gateway, mine's a $3500 piece of shit.

17" G-4 Laptop

I know a lot of people don't like Mac, but from an editors standpoint if you are going to do anything with video at all this is a cut above abything else out.

Dell 8500 is the best i've seen so far from ibm based laptops.

If you are experiencing jagged or blurry fonts or images only within MS Internet Explorer read this.

I like the Alienware machines because they have solid performance and look great. But I have a hard time spending the extra cash for the flash. The rest of them machines I have bought for my office and studio are Dell's and I have been happy with them. Im just looking for other options because I have been using dells so long now.

The only non dell machine I have is a Mac that I use with Logic Audio for music editing.

I've got an IBM A31 and my wife has the Dell Inspiron 8500.
Both are great machines. Both dell and ibm have been
great at handling my service calls.
The A31 is available with the 15" flexview display which
is the brightest, sharpest display i've ever seen.
