US actively involved in terror and bloodshed in Chile

For those who say the US never mindles in foreign policy...

They backed a bloody disctator ( Pinochet) and let people get tortured and killed.

Today, the US points the finger to Saddam... they should look in the mirror.

Quote:

September 11 1973 was a day of terror and bloodshed in Chile. After months of rising tension, army troops stormed the presidential palace, leaving President Salvador Allende dead and thousands prisoners throughout this previously democratic nation.
Now, on the 30th anniversary of the coup, professors, journalists and citizen activists around the world are continuing to expose the full role of the US government in financing and promoting this bloody coup, which ushered in the 17-year military dictatorship headed by General Augusto Pinochet.

The top secret documents accumulatively detail the crude workings of Washington during the Cold War. "It is firm and continuing policy that Allende be overthrown by a coup," reads a CIA document from October 1970. "It is imperative that these actions be implemented clandestinely and securely so that the USG [US government] and American hand be well hidden."

Two days after this document was written, top CIA officials proposed a terrorist campaign to stun the Chilean people into accepting a military regime.

"Concur giving tear gas cannisters and gas masks ... working on obtaining machine guns," reads a CIA memo dated October 18 1970.

Throughout the 1960s, the US secretly spent millions funding political parties of their choosing - usually the moderate Christian Democrats led by Eduardo Frei Montalva. By the early 1970s, Chilean society had become so leftwing that Washington decided to change tactics. First, President Nixon authorised $10m to be spent "to make the economy scream".

the CIA organised to kidnap Rene Schneider, a Chilean army general.

How much of the article is the truth...the whole truth and nothing but the truth is anyones guess. The fact is the government of the United States does as all governments do and that is to act in what it percieves to be in its best interests. Nothing new about this and nothing unique about this. Been going on ever since the very first government in history.

And .. for the record, You are still an "anti-American". You going to admit it yet or still hide behind the mind-numbing mantra of
"just trying to educate Americans"? ;-)

True, if you expose something ugly but sanctionned by the US, you are anti-american.

If you report the same situation but denounced by the US ( ex: Saddam, Noriega), you are a patriot, maybe even a hero...

Wake up!

OR:

"I am just a dumb right wing american, and I beleive whatever my president says...: we are liberators"....

PS: If you think that a foreign policy ( not to say attack) does only influence the 2 parties involved, well you are pretty dumb!

If you criticize the shade of grass south of the border, you might be anti-American.

You apparently have led a sheltered live because you seem to think that you have discovered something new and unique about America. Nothing new and nothing unique.

I rarely agree with you, but you do have a point.

But yes I do have a problem with what happened in Rwanda, Congo and Nigeria and what is happening now in Liberia ( funny how it dissapeared from the news in the US ) along with the " killing fields"...

But those situations are some where the US stayed passive, not actively involved in the overturn of an elected foreign government and the assassination of it's president.

Little fifference...

And by the way, the blame goes to the administrations, not to the whole US population.

whats pretty dumb is your sig coupled with the fact that you have no clue how i feel about the current president. my issue lies in drunk moose fuckers who spout off about issues that don't even involve their country. hell, i live here & i could give a rat's fuck about it...no clue what this guy's issue is. :2 cents:

Sure, you can do whatever you wish.

What you're failing to note is that it's quite easy to come up with a laundry list of "what's wrong with the US", "what's wrong with Canada", or "what's wrong with the UK".

I can find a countless number of articles that demonstrate the poor behavior of politicians or inconsistencies in laws or actions of law-makers for any nation on earth. It's a very simple thing to do. It's so simple, in fact, that politicians within countries do it to each other.

You have an axe to grind. You post links to articles that show the negative side of the US and only the negative side. You are anti-American in the sense that you view all actions of the US and within the US in the context of "America is evil". In fact, you remind me of George Bush in that sense but on the liberal side.

We're going to liberate k-bec soon from the wannabe frenchies (you know the ones that even France won't claim) News Flash!! The CIA is rearming the Crow, Blackfoot and Lakota Nations to storm the province and take it by force.

Seccessionists will be publically... well you know once you give then firewater what happens. ;-)

DF, whyn't you join SexEd and Richie on their new board! www.dumbassestalkaloud.com Or shove a sock in it. There were other things this country did covertly that HELPED the World. Ever heard of Pol Pot? D'oh! Ya know the Khymers?

You are next! Muuu Haaaa Haaa Haaaa

I'd like to see this guy spend one day in Monrovia, Liberia where they still practice cannabalism and you're more likely to be totured and killed by a drugged up 8 year old just cuz he didn't like how you look. America, Canada & the UK are a far cry from many third world countries... go live there, then come back and spout your shit!:2 cents:

What I said had nothing to do with Chinese.

It has to do with a webmaster RELYING on America for his business.

Try again.

Where are you from BTW?

Fine. So how about something good about the US ( not YOUR opinion or quotes from "TheKing" ) links, articles...

Here a a few subject that could be interesting and welcomed:

- Economics ( your forte!)
- Iraq
- Education
- Health Care
- Foreign policy
- Law

and if this too serious, then:

- Adult business
- Gas prices
- Nasa

and whatever you feel like.

tell the Native Americans that...

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

at least the other minorities were kept around and alive to do the work we didn't feel like doing...

ie Chinese with the laundry and railways....and the Africans for everything else...

the Natives we tried to extinguish ala 'ethnic cleansing' sytle, then when the last few were still kicking, we said "HEY you can have this nice little piece of dirt to live on in the middle of the desert...Mmmmmkay? and we'll let you do whatever you want there as payback for our taking your land and killing you off..."

Woops, just kidding about that last part...we're going back on that now too in a lot of states...
