Mr Schwarzenegger is said to be still undecided, however Larry Flynt, the flamboyant publisher of the pornography magazine Hustler, is one of more than 200 people who have taken nomination forms to apply for the race.

"I don't think they would have a problem having a smut peddler who cares as governor," said the publisher, who has been in a wheelchair since a failed attempt on his life several years ago.

"I think I can do a better job of balancing the budget than those pinhead bureaucrats up in Sacramento (the state's capital)."

Porn king Larry Flynt wants to rule California. The Hustler magazine publisher has filed initial paperwork to run in the gubernatorial recall election and says he may spend a large amount of his own money if people take his candidacy seriously.

"California is the most progressive state in the union," said Flynt, 61. "I don't think anyone here will have a problem with a smut peddler as governor."

With only 80 Assembly districts, however, all those "R" candidates won't make it back to the top again after they drop to the end. Candidates who fall below 80th in the initial alphabetical selection process, meanwhile, will never make it to No. 1.

Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt and former Major League Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth, whose initials pulled 25th and 21st respectively, could fall into that category.
