Strange that you pick one of their only rock songs as example of hip hop. You just fucking fail on so many levels.

I picked their most popular songs. And the vocals are hip hop.

How are the vocals "hip hop" lol

Sabotage was the Beastie Boys going back to their roots of being a hardcore punk band. They said that themselves.

It's the least hip hop song they ever made... lol I'm a big fan of the Beasties but using Sabotage as example of hip hop is funny shit.

Paul Revere would be a much better example of them doing rap/hiphop

Also Beastie Boys were not a hip hop band, they were not a rock band, they were not rappers, were not hard core or a alternative band.. They were all of those bands.. a perfect mix.

King Mark 04-15-2019 03:16 PM

What qualifies these weirdos as the best to you? Their color?

No doubt. Hip hop was never about groups like most other genre's. I liked Beastie Boys but they put out like 2 top records and the others, not hits.

I think Tech N9ne is the best still in the biz with over 20+ albums.

crockett 04-15-2019 03:31 PM

This is a much better example of them doing rap/hip hop.. Hell even Dre said these guys were fucking out doing every black rapper at the time but to say they were the best, I wouldn't go that far..

What I would say is that the Beastie Boys were probably as equal to Run DMC in making Hip Hop become mainstream.

I think with out the Beastie Boys Hip Hop wouldnt have gone mainstream as early as it did so I would say they were a big part of its sucess.

Ironically, that very album, license to ill was their last hip hop album after that they moved more alt rock/ rap mix.

NWA pioneered true hip hop. Their lyrics are the truth when the media ignored harassment of blacks. Rodney King showed the truth but NWA gave it to you in words.

To this day, when I say I love them, I get the “white Jewish lady likes that ni**er trash talk” looks. Then I calmly explain that music has no color. Black people liked Barry Manilow, white people liked Kurtis Blow (Google is your friend), Asians liked Dolly Parton, etc.

Rap and hip hop told a story. It wasn’t always about hos and ni**as and badass guns. It was a hard look at life in the hood, in Compton, the Bronx and beyond. If you want cutesy rap, Will Smith and DJ whatever is for you. It’s kindergarten rap; I prefer grad school rap.

Beastie Boys “fight for your right to party” is imitation hip hop (though for three white guys they weren’t bad).

I know most won’t agree but that’s my opinion.

It allowed white people to be cool enough to like rap without crossing the color line.

huey 04-15-2019 04:52 PM

Some static started in the pool hall
Hit a motherfucker's face with the cue ball
Then I met this girl she tried to gank me
So I smacked her in the pootie with a Plank, B
'Cause me and my crew were out breaking windows
The bingo, the lotto you know I'll never win those
Possession is half the law
I had my routines before all y'all
Your whole life is coming apart at the seams
You ain't nothing but a car thief biting routines
See, I'm a city slicker I ain't no townie
Right now I wish I had another hash brownie
Like Ricky always said you've got to toke and pass
Or Mookie's gonna kick your fuckin' ass
You try to take what isn't yours like a God damn rat
See, personally I wouldn't wanna go out like that
I'm a writer, a poet, a genius, I know it
I don't buy cheeba I grow it
People always trying to get next to me
I had a beautiful experience on ecstasy
I Smoked up a bag of elephant tranquilizer
Because I had to deal with a money-hungry miser
Had a 'caine-filled Kool with my man Rush Rush
Saw my teeth fall in the sink when I started to brush
You be doing nose candy on the Bowie coke mirror
My girl asked for some but I pretended not to hear her
You can't deny me, you always want to try me
Yo, you're just gonna get your ass kicked
Homeboy throw in the towel
Your girl got dicked by Ricky Powell
The Godfather of Soul in the belly of the beast
Smoking that dust at St. Anthony's Feast
All the wife beaters and all the tax cheaters
Sitting in the White House pulling their peters
Buy my cheeba from the cop down the street
The only cop with a rope chain walking the beat
So like a sneaky pouch time bomb tickin'
Or like the beat to my rhyme just kickin'
Space cake cookies I discover who I am
I'm a dusted old bummy hurdy-gurdy man
Five-O caught me now I'm going to the mountains
Said good-bye to my girl, my lawyers and accountants
My mind is kinda rhymin' and I think I oughta think
So I'm rockin' all the rhymes and I'll have another drink
So the lights are flashing, my mind is spinning
I feel like it is always the beginning
Of another rhyme I'm rapping, M.C-ing I rock
You ain't nothing but a car thief who must be stopped

While NWA was going back to my roots and LOVED them again they put out how many albums? Now Ice Cube came out of it to be legendary and he and Too Short are my fav old school and are even putting out good music today.

While I haven't listened to Tech N9ne as long as those I mentioned you gotta respect the numbers

Tech N9ne Breaks Record for Most Top 10s on Rap Albums Chart (19)
https://www.billboard.com/articles/c...p-albums-chart

Tech is about to drop his 21st album in 4 days and I preordered it and have heard the 7 of 21 songs on it and they are lit.

Too short has 20 albums.

Ice Cube has 10 (thought he had more than that but I guess they are just that good)

Hello...
It's times like this when I just can't stop
Can't wind your body without the body rock
Got schemes, schematics blue prints on file
You gotta have dreams to make it all worthwhile
So as I take my time and realign
I wonder what it is I hope to find
I don't mean to brag I don't mean to boast
But I'm intercontinental when I eat French toast
Adrock with the new addition edition
Gettin' on down for the year 2000
A slight distraction can get you paid
And when it comes to that type shit I paved the way
BBoys to the early morn
BGirls be rockin on and on
BGirls to the break of dawn
BBoys be rockin on and on
Dogs love me cause I'm crazy sniffable
I bet you never knew I got the ill peripheral
In your home I'm cloned I'm on your headphones
I love it when you spazz out all alone
Cause I'm that fool that broke the key
I'm unlockable so don't check me
I got weight on my shoulders and things on my mind
The sky is falling and I'm falling behind
So I synthesize sounds as I patch my brain
Insane mind games move quick like flames
So now I wonder how sometimes you never know
Who be rockin y'all in ster-er-eo?
In ster-er-eo!
In ster-er-eo!
In stereo...
No time like the present to work shit out
That's what I'm going on and on and on about
Not fakin' just makin' beats in the dungeon
Keep that shit funky cause the odor is pungent
No shame in my game just par for the path
I try to hone my craft because at hands the task
But I find I'm not playing with a full deck
I'm up to my neck like Toulouse Latrec
All I want to know is when is checkout time
So I could be in heaven with the rhythm rock rhyme
And when I'm with my man Shadi rock at the gates
We'll be rockin' rhythms over disco breaks
BBoys to the early morn
BGirls be rockin on and on
BGirls to the break of dawn
BBoys be rockin on and on
On and on...on and on...

Maybe in the burbs.

We didn't have those problems in nyc. Not around my parts anyway, cause NYC is pretty much 5 different cities.

Either way, that doesn't qualify them as the best.

They are not the best group lyrically, sonically or literally lol.

Don't get me wrong, I like them. But best hip hop group ever? No way...

OMG OutKast, Bones Thugs & Harmony. You’re bringing back great memories of great rappers. BigBoi . Naughty By Nature “you down with opp!?” My mind is spinning right now. Beastie Boys had their fun but if MTV wasn’t around, they’d be a one-hit wonder .

I grew up on Long Island but don’t remember much. NYC was visiting Wolfie’s and The Carnegie Deli. Hookers scaring me with that makeup and short skirts. If my mom weren’t so sick, I’d call her now and reminisce. She hated LI.

King Mark 04-15-2019 06:07 PM

I spent some time in Long island.

Nassau or Suffolk?

King Mark 04-15-2019 06:08 PM

Long island gave birth to my #1 favorite rapper: Rakim

Prodigy and Busta rhymes from there too.

I’m not sure but it was Huntington Long Island. My dad owned a record company nearby but can’t remember the city. He drove 45 minutes to get home each day he used to say. The traffic on the Expressway I remember due to the accidents. You’re bringing back very old memories. We lived near a school and every house had big green lawns. Strange to remember that...

I lived there for five years or less. Mom still says she hated it there because everyone tried to outdo your neighbors by buying bigger cars, bigger houses, brand name clothing, and looking down at you for living life in your own space.

I remember talk about a vaccine that you had to get in the early 60’s. It caused health issues with Long Islanders.

I’m off to sleep but these memories will give me dreams!

astronaut x 04-15-2019 09:19 PM

So what you are trying to say is White Rappers owned Black Rappers?

Yeah, Huntington a high class area. Mostly NYC commuters, doctor's, etc. That's Suffolk. Long island is super segregated financially. The divide is sharp. You either a commuter with a great job in the city, a entertainer or a native... And there ain't much for natives but ghettos in the woods (like Wyandanch, Rakim's town).

It's funny you say green lawn, there's a town named Greenlawn right next to Huntington.

MFCT 04-16-2019 01:27 AM

Beastie Boys vs N.W.A.

I enjoy them both. I enjoyed the videos posted by the OP very much. I'd never heard either song live.

Beastie Boys nailed it. N.W.A. was disappointing, only because the song was incomplete. Ezy-E's part got edited out, which I was looking forward to seeing.

Was surprised at N.W.A.'s audience. So subdued and seemingly not into it. That's head-banging, fist-flailing music! Maybe there was an unspoken thing at that concert where people thought it best to not want to draw attention to themselves. I mean, IDK.

Beastie Boys to me has always been a fusion of rock & hiphop. So to call their music the best hip hop is just inaccurate.

N.W.A. is like the rawest, purest form hiphop there ever was. They were like the Black Sabbath of rap. Like Sabbath, N.W.A. is just too much for many people. I get that.

Tupac made much better music and was much more talented. He was the best there ever was, in my opinion. Nobody can argue that.

lock 04-16-2019 01:41 AM

The Beastie Boys just brought it to the masses. I am more a Public Enemy fan also like PE2. I was only a kid when Licence to Ill came out and well I don't listen to much of it as an adult a rather listen something less dated or not targeted towards youth.

ilnjscb 04-16-2019 11:56 AM

Beastie Boys suck

bronco67 04-16-2019 12:04 PM

The main takeaway from this thread is that the dickhead who created it (while most likely claiming he's not racist) wanted everyone to know that white people can do a better job at something created by black people...which is highly debatable in the case of the Beastie Boys. So basically it's a white supremacy thread. It belongs on Stormfront.com.

But just to play along, Eminem probably would have been a better choice since his roots aren't in the hardcore scene.

Damn you just fucking fail. You're a tool.

It’s strange to remember the lawns but funnier there’s a town by that name. We had a summer house up in Hunter and I remember the long drive up the mountain. Roads were over cliffs and I swore we’d drive over. Scary. Looking down those hills and imagining driving in the winter is insane.

I didn’t know Huntington was affluent but I was young. I’m pulling out tiny memories of the area. Hopefully I’ll talk to mom tomorrow for details.

Isn’t most of LI commuters to the city?
