If only they had raked better.

Kidding aside that looks horrible. Such a thing of beauty that has survived so long will be gone forever. :(

Trump suggests Paris firefighters need "flying water tankers" to fight blaze at Notre Dame

President Trump just tweeted about the fire at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, France, and suggested "flying water tankers" could help put it out.

"Must act quickly!" Trump tweeted.

CaptainHowdy 04-15-2019 10:57 AM

Blame it on the local black metal band . . .

I know I thought that too. I read the link after I posted. Way to go, Trump, you never stop to reach a bigger all-time low day in and day out. :helpme:error

Rochard 04-15-2019 11:02 AM

This looks bad.

I've never been there but of course have read about it, etc..... I know millions of tourists visit every year.

Probably in the top 4 attractions in Paris.

And that will be that then.

Wonder what started it...

Trump said after 9/11 that "Now I have the tallest building in the US".. That was literally Trump's response to 9/11 he used it to brag about his building..

The best part was "little hands" still didn't have the tallest building, he was even lying about that..

Sly 04-15-2019 11:25 AM

Few weeks back I read about churches being torched all over France. It was not very publicized. First thing I thought of at the time was Notre Dame.

And here we are.

Shedevils 04-15-2019 11:25 AM

There have been church fires in France going on for a while now All unreported in MSM of course.

If you look at the pictures there was scaffolding all around it, they were obviously doing repairs to the building. Most likely a construction fire.. Lets not fuel the conspiracy nuts....

construction fires do not spread that fast as it did. :2 cents:

While there was construction going on it was still open for biz at the time.

NatalieK 04-15-2019 11:35 AM

Trump says they should fly some water tankers over it. I guess he thinks you can fill them up in the seine :2 cents:

yeah, now the scaffolding, itīs all starting to bend and crumple in, thereīs not going to be anything left :(

A great shame, as some have said, problem third or fourth main attraction for heading to Paris :Oh crap

what he said.

they said the wood below the roof is from the 14th century - one spark can be enough. And it was currently under repair.

Sarn 04-15-2019 11:42 AM

Conspiracy nuts are already talking about it and blaming Muslims. :2 cents:

NatalieK 04-15-2019 11:47 AM

they seem to be soaking the 2 towers at the front, probably hoping, if it collapses, at least the bells can still ring, which is what itīs famous for. Theyīre both in each of the towers :2 cents:

Yes if the towers collapse the bells in them will ring no problem...

astronaut x 04-15-2019 11:57 AM

The whole thing is going to be destroyed.

The fire has moved to the front of the building.

ilnjscb 04-15-2019 12:12 PM

An icon of Paris. The island it is on, Île de la Cité, is where the Parisi and later the Merovingians lived before they grew to the banks. This cathedral was begun 1000 years ago and held numerous priceless relics (I hope they got some out). Really it is the heart of Paris, literally and spiritually. An immeasurable loss.

baddog 04-15-2019 12:14 PM

They were talking about the fire on the radio for more than 10 minutes before the first water was applied. They were wondering where air support was also.

Matt 26z 04-15-2019 12:21 PM

It's right next to a river. Yet no helicopters dropping water yet.

kane 04-15-2019 12:23 PM

That sucks. It's a great loss.

Matt 26z 04-15-2019 12:23 PM

I'll bet the muz set this fire.

Oh it's nice to know you were on top of things before it hit the news.. What ever would we do with out Baddog to tell us air support was on everyone's minds..

I will say though that someone or some group dropped the ball on this. Not prepared.

MaDalton 04-15-2019 12:43 PM

it's 2019 - nobody cares about logic or reason before posting shit.

PS: they were rescuing artifacts first before pouring water on them from the top

One of the towers is on fire as of 10 or 15 mins ago. They didn't just soak them to save them. They soaked them to hope to slow them once they started fire.

a helicopter? you do know the WHOLE inside of this church was 850-year-old wood right

Quote:

It dominated the verdigris copper statues of the 12 apostles and being 93m in height it took 500 tons of wood and 250 tons of lead to complete it.

You Trump supporters have a hard time with logic. Here is some info for your neanderthal brain....

In a pair of tweets, France's civil defense agency appeared to dismiss Trump's suggestion.

"The drop of water by air on this type of building could indeed result in the collapse of the entire structure," the agency said in French. "Alongside those ... who are currently doing the maximum to save #NotreDame."

"Helicopter or airplane, the weight of the water and the intensity of the drop at low altitude could indeed weaken the structure of Notre-Dame and result in collateral damage to the buildings in the vicinity," the agency added.

MaDalton 04-15-2019 01:31 PM

several specialists on TV explain why dumping water from planes or helicopters would be a bad idea - for example because the sudden impact of the weight would bring the walls down. It's not a forrest fire.

edit: posted simultaneously...

Bullshit.

Liberals want to see this church in a pile of rubble.

This was obviously arson.
