one of the rare cases where the sequel is better than the first

I really enjoyed the movie

4th biggest opening weekend ever.
I think people liked it :thumbsup

Can't wait for #3!

evildick 05-04-2003 06:58 PM

The opening scene with Nightcrawler was great. I just didn't like later on when they let him talk. Kinda made him sound like a Colonel Klink spoof of a German.

It was a definately a good movie.

did kinda dull his coolness...

Damn not a bad opening weekend: $155.2 million

Zebra 05-04-2003 08:29 PM

Nightcrawler is German. What SHOULD he sound like? Sounded like I always thought he would. His character in the comics was always a little goofy. I think Alan Cummings did a perfect job. The tattoos hehad a were an interesting touch. Nightcrawler was always a religious character. I think out of all the characters they kept him the closest to his comic book incarnation.

In the comics Mystique is his brother and Sabretooth (from the 1st movie) is his half-brother. Guess that got tossed out the window for the movie.

not cartoon german... a quarter of my family is german. It's not easy to get an accent 100% though.. especially when the character is a little goofy like nightcrawler and it comes out in the put on accent.. the last accent to impress me was helena bonham carter in "till human voices wake us" wasn't quite on but so goddamn close for a fake accent.

NETbilling 05-04-2003 09:00 PM

Pretty damn good movie... definitely better than the first.

The opening scene with nightcrawler was really great.

Zebra 05-04-2003 09:05 PM

Remember, Nightcrawler was a circus freak.
I'm sure that'll fuck up your accent no matter what country you are born in! :1orglaugh

of course Storm was supposed to be African and she sounded like she was from L.A.

keep an eye out for the name Hank McCoy during a talk show on a TV screen in the bar scene. That is The Beast. Either his mutation hasn't kicked in yet or he is a mutant but is disguised (in the comics he has a holographic projector to hide his real appearance).
Also look real fast when Stryker's computer files are accessed. You'll notice the names Remy Lebeau (Gambit), Franklin Richards (mutant son of Reed and Sue Richards of the Fantastic Four), Muir Island, and "Project Wideawake" which is the Sentinels Project that I hope shows up in a future movie. The names scroll by fast so that is all I caught.

And of course be on the lookout for a bird-like shape in the lake at the end of the movie. I'm sure we'll be seeing Phoenix show up some time soon. Professor X's last line in the movie makes me think so.

If you know your x-men then also be on the lookout for Jubilee, Colossus, Syren, Kitty Pryde, and a few others.

Think I might have to go see it again to catch the little things I missed.

skrog 05-04-2003 10:30 PM

X-Men 2 was great! Better than the first one. :2 cents:

She is the only Asian girl in the movie. She can be best seen at the very end in Professor X's office. She has a kinda funky hairdo that is sticking up like when she first appeared in the comic and she isn't wearing any kind of uniform, just regular schoolclothes.
She never uses her power, but I know Storm calls her name when she finds her.. at least I think she does. It was kinda hard to hear what she said. But she is the only asian girl so she is easy to pick out.

I think the guy that was talking to Dr. McCoy during the TV show was Sebastian Shaw from the Hellfire Club.
Stryker's son Jason is supposed to be Mastermind, the guy responsible for fucking up Jean Grey's mind and unleashing Dark Phoenix.

On Stryker's computer is a file marked Omega Red (russian foe of Wolverine).

Trying to remember what else I saw in the movie.. They actually threw a lot of shit in there.

Turboface 05-04-2003 11:41 PM

X2 Rocks!

I just saw it tonight and fuckin loved it.

There was some guy walking up behind my girlfriend and I as we approached the theater - I thought it was a cop, but when I looked right at him I saw that he was dressed up like Cyclops - visor and all.

I saw him by the ticket line, leaning over talking to some black children. The one kid said, 'You're weird!'. I almost laughed outloud.

Christ, you caught a lot more shit then I did...
I caught Jubilee, Colossus, Syren and Kitty Pryde (wasn't hard) but I missed Hank McCoy (he actually has a credit role) and I missed everything on the computer

The movie was fucking insane... the special effects were great and more violence kicked ass... Nightcrawler was fucking insane.

Oops.. Yeah, I made a typo. Of course Mystique isn't his brother. Meant MOTHER. lol

Rogue had two human parents. Don't think Rogue was related to him at all. Sabretooth was also Mystique's son.

Gotta remember X-men is 40 years old so there is a shitload of stuff to try to tie up in a 2 hour movie. Hell, even the comics haven't answered everything. I know a bunch of guys that have written or drawn the X-men comics and they don't even know most of the shit. They just keep piling shit up and hoping someone will be able to sort it all out one day lol.

Hell, in the comics every member of the X-Men has been dead AT LEAST once. Some of them many times lol
They had a running joke for a while where it kept looking like Wolverine was dead and then he would show up and someone would say they thought he was dead and he would reply "I got better."

in the comics Mystique is Rogue's mother and not related to Collosus. He's a poor farmer from Russia who has a sister who wasn't in the movie

The whole series is more confusing than a soap-opera.

Mystique had lived many lifes, leaving them as soon as she got tired or they were not fun anymore. For example, one of the most recent ones was the top model Ronnie Lake and one of the oldest B. Byron Biggs, the camera-shy millionaire. Many years ago, while she was living as a detective, she received a help request from the classic lady in trouble. In this case, the lady was Irene Adler, a precognitive mutant herself. Mystique associated to her to use her powers, but they eventually became close friends -most likely lovers- and they grew old together. Of course, Mystique's body did not age, but their bond was intact and she became the closest person to Mystique's heart. Years later, they adopted a lost young girl and treated her as mothers. The girl grew up to be the x-woman Rogue: she joined Xavier at Raven's request after an accident that broke the girl's frail psyche.

Glad to hear the 2nd one is better than the first. I could see the potential in the first one..

seriously...the slomo during the opening scene was mind blowing.

more blood on wolverine after the battle scene would've been appropriate considering he just shanked an entire squad of intruders...

the school battle scene was a let down..friends have said it was the coolest scene but i thought it paled in comparison to the opening scene. the school scene was dark...but the Colussus part was pretty good.

Bryan Singer is damn good at foreshadowing....he left all the hooks in for X3.

Alan Cummings i think is the name of the actor who played Nightstalker. This was HIS movie.
