Most Designers are a PAIN IN THE ASS

i used to test a few designers in the past... a lot of them are going to get some orders by me again but a lot wont.

either the design is sucky or they are LATTTTTTE as hell....
i mean... i understand when somebody is ill (you know who you are... hehe.. get well soon ;))
but most of the ones i tried know shit about deadlines
when i want the design on Dec 1st, i want it on dec1st and not dec10th

what are your experiences?

Jakke PNG 05-03-2003 07:37 AM

foe 05-03-2003 07:40 AM

Better a girl makes you late than you make a girl late is what I always say.

LadyMischief 05-03-2003 07:40 AM

Never had this kind of problems with the designers i am working.

adjektiv 05-03-2003 08:06 AM

All designers are lazy with attention deficit disorders. I have gone through about 5 of them in the last year and they all are extremely late or can't follow simple directions.

This one here is a crook and he's fucking late too!

AdultNex 05-03-2003 08:17 AM

I'm never late, I always try to get the project in at a reasonable time length set by the client.

I usually sign a contract which basically explains the project will be due at this date, if not, your fees will be refunded.

I usually believe that when people are using lazy and slow designers its because the person is cheap and impatient, and they go for some cheap designer who ends up ruining the entire experience.

Sure Genius blame everyone for YOU being cheap.

hahah

I guess one that would trust their clients enough to be smart enough to not give out their URL to people who would post it on a public board.

Cheers,
Matt

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 05-03-2003 10:22 AM

Ya get what ya pay for in designers, just like any other specialty.

Picking on designers is tough enough especially when they work so cheap these days.

I don't know of any adult design firms that actually have an office dedicated to their business.

The adult design field is not as profitable as the mainstream design business.

i am a designer... and i, am a pain in the ass!

Brujah 05-05-2003 12:03 AM

Run a design contest out in the open.

You won't overpay for a design you don't like. You won't pay in advance for a design you don't see for months. You'll get at least one or two designs you really like, usually more. You'll pay a fair price for it, after it's finished. You'll get the completed design in a reasonable amount of time.

You're the buyer. Don't settle for anything you don't want.

DarkJedi 05-05-2003 12:07 AM

my #1 rule is never to pay a designer up front.
cause then they got the money and most of them dont give a shit about being late or coming up with shity designs.

I never demand an upfront payment, but when it is a large order and I've never worked with that client before I mostly make a deal like half now half after.

You are all bitching about designers and I am sure there are lots of cheats out there. But don't forget, not all designers are a pain in the ass.

I agree and most of the designers that we use are very professional and 100% reliable. The one job that we were let down over was a one off for an urgent project that we needed done straight away. It turned out for the best for us anyway as we are far happier with the design that our regular designer was able to rush through and get us out of trouble with than anything else we could have used.

Jakke PNG 05-05-2003 02:09 AM

Most clients are a ... uhh.. nevermind. I have nothing but love for you all! :)

Soon accepting more orders.. maybe. Dunno. Maybe not. Gotta start being the nice guy again soon.

and why should I be ashamed? am I promoting myself based on lies? my services are something to be ashamed of? I know the design market and more or less I know who are good, bad, late, on time, expensive, inexpensive, plain crooks, or any mixture of the above. I won't talk about others, but I know about my company, and I know something: we've nothing to be ashamed of. I know my prices are inexpensive (they're not the lowest either), I know I never EVER missed a deadline and our clients say we're good, we also are always between the design contest winners here on GFY, just if you've doubts. So... should I be ashamed? HELL NO! :winkwink: (but I know about a couple that should be)

sextoyking 05-05-2003 10:15 AM

Trax,

I am of course partial to our design company, webinc.com but there are also other good teams out there.

Always take the time to research the company / designer that you are looking at hiring. Take the extra time to go through there portfolio, ask questions, etc.

Customer service is very important to our company, and should be important to any potential client :)

thanks

Todd

HairToStay 05-05-2003 10:26 AM

I found one designer who did the most awesome designs at great prices and has (had??) a well-respected reputation in the industry. Unfortunately it took him nearly 4 months to finish the projects, and one still is not done almost 6 months later. I'm still owed several other sites.

Meanwhile, he referred me to someone else to do work that was waiting.

One designer did SUCH an awful job that I dumped his designs. Before I did, I showed it to several other designers who all said a 5-year old could have done a better job, that the buttons looked like a newbie to Photoshop and the fonts were horrendous. I won't reveal who it is but others think he does awesome work (from comments on this very board). I can easily see why people issue chargebacks against designers (yes, I asked him to fix the buttons and fonts and he told me he'd already spent enough time on my sites, was not doing any more work on them, period).

In the interim, I found someone who does incredible work, and on time. He's not well-known, he doesn't have a portfolio, but what he does is highly professional and on time.

I had one person design something for me and install a script and gee whiz, after I told him I didn't need more work done, 1/3 of the files disappeared into thin air. Yes, that will teach me not to wait 24 hours to change the FTP password

All in all, I'd say designers are like any other industry out there, there are good, and there are bad.

UnseenWorld 05-05-2003 10:34 AM

What I find depressing is that so much design looks the same, especially those dizzying and busy pink and blue splash pages for the teen sites. How about some originality?

In an attempt to clear my name, I have posted a full explanation for my dissappearance in this thread: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hreadid=131136

I am currently working things out with the involved parties/clients. It was never my intent to 'run away' with their deposits or leave the work incomplete.
