What chair you have?

I've just ordered all new custom furniture for my home office and now I'm missing a final piece of the renovation puzzle - some awesome chair that will make my back pains tolerable (disc hernia sufferer...)

I'm 110 kg, 193 cm, and my final choice is between these two models:

dxracer sentinel - around 500$ or so (I really like the headrest thing on it..)

herman miller embody - around 2000$ (superb but no headrest)

anyone use any of those two? experiences after year or two of using?

feedback appreciated.. feel free to nominate some model that isn't on the list :thumbsup

Get a yoga ball and a kneeling chair along with a normal chair like you wanted...chage on what you sit every hour...sitting in one position for hours is supposedly as bad for your health as a pack of ciggs per day

I've had a herman miller chair for 10 years. They last , but still just a chair so not comfortable for long periods of time. The best thing I did was get a desk that goes up to stand. I even got a under desk treadmill for it. I use the treadmill like twice a week when I'm doing brainless work.

This one atm. I got it on the 23rd of last month, but the gas lift has developed a fault, so hopefully I'm getting another delivered tomorrow and the old one picked up. Awaiting confirmation as I type this.

Good chair though, nice and wide and has good lumbar support...

I have to replace my chairs once a year or so.... This time I bought mine at Ikea oddly enough. It's the MILLBERGET chair. $70, comfy, looks good.

yes, it's a aeron. I was like the other guy replacing my chair every year before I got the aeron. Mostly just because the were cheap Office Depot chairs and the fabric would look like crap after a year.

regarding comfort.. what I noticed myself and what I heard from several people

aeron is a PERFECT chair but ONLY for the "typing" position, like lets say a programmer would be in for most of his workday... for more relaxed (mouse and clicking around) computer pose and typing of course, embody is the best

that is maybe why you didn't consider aeron all too comfortable, it isn't a chair to lean and chill with youtube or such

I can't say that I ever just sit in my office chair in click around. I'd rather lay on my sofa and use my iPad for that.

The way I see it is very simple:

are Herman Miller chairs the most comfortable office chairs? Yes

is the comfort level a huge difference than other chairs? No

Because I'm 220 lbs and sit in my chairs 8-12 hours a day and after a year or two they look like shit.

CaptainHowdy 09-13-2018 10:12 AM

A classical wooden chair . . .

marlboroack 09-13-2018 10:40 AM

My chair is customized

upgrade to some higher quality model :winkwink:

I'm heavier than you and I definitely don't burn through them so fast (+ every now and then I have sex on my office chair, so it is my 110 + gf's 60ish kg, and it still didn't mess up the chair to this date)

thirdworldxxx 09-13-2018 11:19 AM

I have such a shitty chair. Reading this thread makes me want to upgrade.

A lumbar support cushion at $20 bucks, will be better for your back than ANY chair you can buy. The cheap chairs people are shown in pictures are fine! but they need to be replaced regularly, say every 2 years, and they certainly need the cushion.

memory foam is memory foam and having an 100kg plus ass sitting in it all day will fuck it out in a couple of years 200 buck chair or a $3000 one, don't get caught in the sales hype.

btw I've had multiple previous back surgery's, been pain and back issue free for 10 years... I know my chairs, tried many over the years in all price ranges... get a cushion.

Shoplifter 09-13-2018 11:34 AM

I'm using the AmazonBasics Mid-Back Office Chair that I got for $49 on sale.

The chair isn't so important but rather setting everything up to be ergonomic is. Generally everyone has their desk set up far too high at 28 inches.

Lowering everything so that my feet are flat on the floor was a big positive change for me.

A comfy recliner + laptop + adjustable stand has been my office for years..

humanscale freedom chair

i've used various chairs in the past including a aeron knock off and this is by far the best one, it's a bit expensive but you can get a good price on ebay.

Busty2 09-14-2018 07:43 AM

CNC Chair

When i have finished some current projects i hope to make a few of these. I have the DXF file i just need to modify it to suit my own ergonomic requirements and hopefully it will improve my posture. Made from just one sheet of 3/4" plywood, some leather from E-bay, and a base from Amazon, should cost me around $150 plus a few hours of work. I'll post pics when its done!

That is a cool project. Can you share the file for it?

EddyTheDog 09-15-2018 01:06 AM

I used to have a nice office chair - Then I got a cat - Now she has a nice chair that she has "customized" and I work in the dining room...
