GoogleOne Cloud Storage, Rip Off or not ???????
 

Dont see the benefit to GoogleOne cloud storage at these prices!
I mean i buy G-Technologys 10TB drives on Amazon for $369.00 each so 30TB= $1107.
4 months storage on GoogleOne for 30TB @ $300 per month= $1200. Make sense to you ?



Google launches Google One cloud storage plans, offers 2TB for $10/month

If you are the kind of photographers who likes backing up your images and other data in the cloud, you should have a closer look at the new cloud storage plans that have just been announced by Google.

The new plans are called Google One, and they replace the existing Google Drive plans. There is a 100GB option for $2 a month, $3 a month get you 200GB of storage and a full 2TB will set you back $10 a month. The latter represents a 50% price reduction compared to the equivalent Google Drive plan.

As a consequence, the existing 1TB/$10 plan is discontinued but, as before, you can still get up to 30TB for $300 a month if you're really storage hungry. Storage space can be used for storing any kind of files on Google Drive, attachments and emails in Gmail, and original quality images and videos (including 4K resolution) in Google Photos.

Google does not own Dropbox.

Dropbox $10/month for 1TB... Works good... I tried using Google drive and it sucked... (files overwritten, duplicates... it was a mess)

Google doesn't own Dropbox.

Just beacuse you are able to use your Google login, instead of creating an account manually, does not mean that Google owns the website.

The login function is a free service Google offers to website owners to make it easier and faster for people to signup. It has absolutely nothing do to with ownership of the website in question.

Just about anyone with a website can use Google Sign-in: https://developers.google.com/identity/

If your data is valuable you shouldn't be solely trusting a third party to keep it safe.

Local backups FIRST, then the "cloud" as the second option.

We use Synology NAS drives for keeping data safe in the office, and standalone hard drives to keep monthly backups at a different location.

Yes, much better to keep your backups local, so you can restore quickly if you need to. Cloud should only be your last resort option.

I just swapped my offsite backups tonight actually. :thumbsup

If your looking for a backup solution for a lot of space and your not pulling from it a lot, wasabi might be a better option for you :)

It's $5 per TB per month, so the same price @ 2TB, but much cheaper if you need 200TB of off location backup.
