Fuck! Any Flash MX people awake? Why won't this work?
 

This is supposed to be fading text but it doesn't do shit. In the flash file it will fade when you control->play but when you test it, it won't. I tried 2 different tutorials and neither work. WTF am I missing?

Geez I'm not really sure, instead of converting the text to a symbol, on the last frame i put it into a free transform. Then selected it with the normal selection tool and set the color->alpha->0 and it faded the same as before. This time it worked though, I really have no idea why. What a wacky program. You think that if you do a tutorial step for step, you'd end up with something that works.

i hate Flash, i've given up trying to learn it, takes too much time to learn how to do cool stuff.

Your original problem was the textfield inside symbol "Fuck" was Dynamic Text and not Static Text. You can view/change the type of text field by editing the symbol it's nested in, selecting the text field, and then looking at the left-hand side of the Properties palette. Hope this helps.

And don't give up on Flash, it's a great program, just sometimes a steep learning curve; there is usually a point of clarity eventually, when it all clicks together and makes sense. :)
