Buying a new PC

OMG what a fucking nightmare

I am on the phone with Dell right now. 7th company I am calling. They want everything from me

Name, Number, address.. I am surprised they don't want my fucking ss#. All I want is a price

Dickheads, I hate people like that.

I want a cheap one

10/100 Ethernet and CDRW. No Monitor, keyboard.. nada. I have everything, its a backup

So far I got

Gateway 2.2 Celleron 40 gig no flppy 600.60
Dell 2.0 Celleron 60 gig no flppy 503.70

Thats insane, christ what happen to 300-400 dollar pc's?

Anybody else know a company I can call

Done the Walmart, Best Buy and CompUSA thing already

If you just want to configure and get a price, shop on the web. May I recommend http://www.apple.com/store/ ?

MCsteve-matrix 04-25-2003 02:55 PM

Emachines, if you havent tried already - 1-800-362-2446

Had a Dell, got let down by their customer service due to a corrupt harddrive issue... went e-machine and was 100% satisfied with it's performance. Check em out.

Wait, why the hell are you on the phone? Dell.com and 3 clicks later you have the computer you are looking for without giving any info out.

ahahahah

she said 3-400$ not 3-4000$

xxxcam 04-25-2003 03:00 PM

you shouldn't buy from dell or any major companies.... you can build your own machine twice as cheaper with a much faster processor and memory... look for chineese stores which only take cash, you can find awsome deals

Actually I was on the web shopping..

Here is the problem, Dell and Gateway both don't really offer No Monitor, No speakers etc on the web. When you call them and tell them exactly what you want its much more simple

E-Mashines eh? Trying that now

for that price you might be better off looking on ebay:
http://listings.ebay.com/pool2/plist...x.html?from=R4
or pricewatch
http://www.pricewatch.com/

I actually broke down and checked apple (don';t know anything about apple, but heck i can learn)

Their least expensive was around 1600.. uhm

more than I need, more that I wanna spend

Plus I have a full version of XP I never used, so I don't even need that.

Basic, PC,, thats it 10/100 - CDRW - XP would be nice.

Marcus 04-25-2003 03:08 PM

compusa has some stuff around $400 too
http://www.compusa.com/products/cate...&category_id=4
and microcenter has some too

FATPad 04-25-2003 03:12 PM

Don't get a Compaq.

(You may not even have been considering them, but everytime I see a thread about buying a comp I feel compelled to post that...just to make sure)

Very true, they are the BEST computers the first week you have them, then its all uphill from there.

detoxed 04-25-2003 03:16 PM

You click customize. Take off the monitor, speakers, and any other component you dont need.

Hi,

I switched to Apple awhile back and could not be happier. I can't stand working on a Windows machine now. You should consider a brand new Ibook or Powerbook. You won't be sorry.

I did it

Best Buy
E-Mashine
1.8 gig Celleron
DVD
CDRW
XP
Keyboard
Mouse
Speakers
floppy
40 gig harddrive
$ 349.00

So far so good, I am letting it sit for 24 hours than load software

Let's see if that PC will hold in, its only to cut CD's and DVD's

In the past 8 years, I've had three emachines...loved them all. Only got new ones because I wanted to upgrade the entire system.

I've also had a few Compaqs (my laptop is a compaq and it's great) and never had any problems with them...I never had a Pavilion though and I've heard bad things about those particular machines. My main computer is a Dell now and it's totally unstable, I hate it.

Good luck with the emachine, though you probably won't need it!

AdultNex 04-27-2003 10:07 AM

Why not just build your own computer. Any idiot can do it, and you can save yourself ~$300-- At least I did.

I've heard mixed reports from EMachines:

There ya go, not too bad of a system, it could use more ram though. They have this machine at my local Wal-Mart and I'm sure that if there's a Wal-Mart, you could buy it locally there also to save the shipping.

Slick 04-27-2003 10:14 AM

One thing to be careful of if you're buying a cheap computer is to watch out for motherboards that DON'T have AGP slots. I've seen MANY cheaper computers without an AGP slot and if you want any kind of decent video card, you're gonna want an AGP slot.

who the fuck wants a celeron and most of all who would pay so much for one?

If you want a cheap computer for backup... I think that www.tigerdirect.com would be your best bet. I don't know how reliable they are, they could even be pieces of shit, but check it out.

I have a kickass home made pc already. I wanted something really basic and cheap as a backup.

I don't know much about hardware and I ordered my last one online.

I hope this one holds for a while

Thanks everybody (Going to fix dinner and loading software)

Plugger 04-27-2003 03:44 PM
