TheRing DVD

Bought it last night.

What did you guys think of this movie?

Slick 03-17-2003 09:47 AM

You're the one that bought it, you should be telling us, he he he.

Actually, this should be a good thread, I've been interested to know how good it is to see if it's good enough to rent or buy.

Darren 03-17-2003 09:47 AM

I thought it was an average movie. Nice little twist at the end.. you are used to an happy ending and although we got the happyish ending u knew someone else was going to die. The next person who watched the vid.....

5 outa 10

Not scary.

Fletch XXX 03-17-2003 09:49 AM

At first I thought it would be a bad Videodrone rip off or something.

The ending was so expected. And dumb. I told my girlfriend it would end like that before half way through the movie. hehe

I have collected horror movies since I was a kid, and although I couldnt guess the story line, because of the Mother, Daughter relationship and some of the images were hard to figure out, but for the most part, I knew when the 'jumps' were, and they got my girl everytime, but it ws somewhat easy to anticipate things...for the most part, I thought the shots, and the effects are awesome, its even somewhat artsy with the film and stuff.

Overall, it was good. I buy horror DVDs every week, the girl picked this one out.

;)

CrazyNakedChick 03-17-2003 09:51 AM

i dug it. :thumbsup

i watched it two days after watching Fear Dot Com though so i was biased a bit.

another "don't view this thing or you'll die" with a scary little kid in it.

i agree with darren, the nonhappy ending made it even better in my opinion.

the thing that fucked me up most about that movie were the screams from the horse as it was drowning, raised horses all my life and that was almost too much for me.

I havent seen one I thought was as stupid in a long fucking time ..

Fletch XXX 03-17-2003 09:59 AM

Its not that bad.

Name a good horror movie, interested in comparing.

MaxDent 03-17-2003 10:01 AM

Japanese version was better in my opinion. The US version was also good, albeit an exact copy with white people.

TDF 03-17-2003 10:03 AM

event horizon is the shit

sexyclicks 03-17-2003 10:03 AM

I didn't like it

xxxdesign-net 03-17-2003 10:03 AM

mmmh... didnt really get the end... what the girl and her son were doing at the end in the editing room?

Why, the blonde girl didnt actually died, and the little boy for that matter?

Wasnt really scary (even if I've whatch it alone, after midnight, and in the dark...) But was a good suspense....

Sharky 03-17-2003 10:05 AM

Watched it the other day.. Good movie in my opinion.

horror is something they can't acheive in movies .. have yet to see one that left me anything but bored .. scream did a better job of entertaining me . and we all know that sucked too .

they all bore me
.. that movie had potential .. just didnt acheive it .. I mean in a horror movie you gotta show the dead people , at least some gore and the ring avoided it .
showed the back of the chair like some PG bullshit .
overall i was dissapointed , thought overall it sucked ass.

hahaha

maybe to you, but plenty of people can be left for days, sometimes weeks haunted by the images seen in some movies.

This is only opinion, you cant state horror movies arent scary..

hahah they scare plenty of people, just not you.

Jamdin 03-17-2003 10:10 AM

The Ring was okay but not really scary until the last 15 minutes. Low-grade horror movies from the seventies scared me more.

It wasnt that bloody hard to figure out. Basically the girl that died wants to get the message out so by copying the tape you save your own life. The blonde women had done this so at the end the boy did it as well to save his life....

B40 03-17-2003 10:19 AM

I thought it was pretty good, not amazing, but good enough.

.:Frog:. 03-17-2003 10:22 AM

The Japanese version was better.
English one was ok, but I didn't think the ending was nearly as good/scary.

If you watch both you'd see what I mean.
Is there anyone here who actually watched both and thought the English version was better?

I know most people here think it was boring and not scary at all. Well, I am not afraid to say that this movie affected me a lot. It scared the living shit outta me. I had problems sleeping for the next couple of days. And trust me, I watched millions of horror movies.

Just the videotape gave me nightmares.. hahaha

For the first time in my life, a horror movie did a good job of scaring me. The story and suspense was also excellent. It's not a masterpiece, but for the genre, it was highly effective.

I watched the japanese version and I think the american version is better.. Well, that' because I saw the american version 1st.

I can imagine that those who watched ringu, did not have the same impact with the american version or it was not as good. Simply because they knew the ending.

Note: You can't compare this movie to a gore or teen slasher movie like "Scream". This is a horror/psychological movie. Like I said, The Ring is not a masterpiece, but it's highly effective for the genre. It's not really BOO! scary and it's not fright-by-volume. It's the kind of film that burrows itself under your skin and copies images into your mind that will stay there.

damn... being scared of a fictional story.. thats bad... Then never watch some of the spooky TLC documantaries... like the "entity"
You wont sleep for a month... anyone saw that one? the guy getting butt raped by an entity??

I downloaded it.....burned it and watched it on the dvd player.
the wife and i both thought it was an excellent film.

Fletch XXX 03-17-2003 10:34 AM

Theres nothing wrong with getting spooked by a movie.

Thats what they are for. If people didnt get affected by them, they wouldnt release them.

Guys who brag about 'not being scared' are usually the ones who sleep with nightlights.

hahah

Ludedude 03-17-2003 10:35 AM

We rented the DVD this weekend as a matter of fact.

One of the shittiest movies I've seen in a while.

strobi 03-17-2003 10:36 AM

Bought the original Ring a few days back for 4.5$ = now that's a good deal :Graucho

Bullshit.

Most horror is based on this.

Legend, and folk lore have always been the basis of superstition.

Fiction is the most scary thing my friend.

Jep the entity is nice.... I was spooked to hell and back when I first saw it (14-15 years old...)! Still is a nice movie!

BigFrog 03-17-2003 10:38 AM

I have a fear of clowns, so Stephen Kings 'It' is a movie i would consider the scariest of all times.
I cant even sit through a few minutes of it without turning it off.

You say that's bad and now you are telling me to believe in a real ghost story?!?! :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Listen, just because The Ring scared me doesn't mean I think it can happen. I don't believe in ghost stories (even on TLC, well, especially on TLC)

You did not understand the movie?!?!

I feel sorry for you..

ghost stories are like the oldest form of bullshit horror fiction.

thats why they rule.

hahah

Amputate Your Head 03-17-2003 10:56 AM

thought it was pretty good.... but I got a weird phone call right after watching it....

MiLo 03-17-2003 11:19 AM

The original japanese version is a good movie, i liked it.
I think that the US version is at the theatres here...

I´m a huge horror fan, and i collect all sort of movies
in my collection and most of them still creep the hell out of me.

In fact, that might be the reason why i love them,
i get scared as fuck, i love that feeling.

MiLo 03-17-2003 11:23 AM

i LOVE gore. One must-see flick for the gorehounds:

mmmh ... ok, you dont believe in ghosts but was scared after viewing the movie "the ring"?
that doesnt make sens....
its like not believing in monsters but being scared and looking under your bed to see if there's a monster...!??

FetishTemptress 03-17-2003 11:55 AM

Both movies: The Ring and The Ringu sucked bigtime!
Not scarey at all!

FT**

StuartD 03-17-2003 12:03 PM

The story was very well done... all the foreshadowing and relating events to lines that we hear previously... it made for a good mystery.

The horror parts were few and far between, but done rather effectively in my opinion. The girl coming out of the tv was excellantly done, especially by the guy's reaction. He sold it really well, instead of just standing there going "oh my god"... I hate that.

The horse falling off the ferry... damn, that looked way to real!!!

Anyway.. the story was original. That's for damn sure. That's a huge bonus in my opinion.

It scared the hell outta my GF, and had her cuddled up to me all night (and also kept her awake for a good portion of the night too), so it had the desired effect.

It certainly wasn't a bad film... but I can see how it might have not lived up to some of your expectations... and when a film doesn't live up to expectations, it's easy to dismiss as a bad film.

My question is, if you hadn't heard how great it was from everyone before you watched it.. would you still think it was crap after?

[Labret] 03-17-2003 12:06 PM

Sucked my balls. terrible.

It does make sense, when you watch a movie, you know it's about special effects. That does not mean you won't be affected because you know it's fake. Unless you are a brick wall.

The movie is a place where you escape reality. And I had a nice movie experience with that one. Look, I did not expect to see samara coming out of my TV after watching it. :1orglaugh

Also, just because you did not like the movie, that does not mean it sucked. You did not like it, point.

Fear dot com, that, is a movie that really sucked. :1orglaugh

Backov 03-17-2003 12:28 PM

So The Ring is about a chain letter that actually does kill you if you don't pass it on to a friend? ;>

Cheers,
Backov

Lane 03-17-2003 12:48 PM

after i watched the movie with my girl, i was telling her about the prank a guy pulled on his girlfried (it was posted here i think).. he made his friend call them and scare his girlfriend.. anyway, i was in the middle of telling that story to her right after the movie and the phone rang.. it was after midnight and i was so fucking scared.. i was glad i had caller ID so i was able to calm down before picking it up..

Actually i liked TCM II.

Was on a bit more of budget, but still Tobe Hopper
managed to drag some of the madness in the sequel.
