Someone stole my domain with snapnames
It's not funny, I am bullshit. The domain was registered until February 2003, at which time I would have re registered it. It was making good money! Some dick used snapnames to get it registered in December 2002, now how is this possible if it doesnt expire until February 2003? This is fucked! I cant get my domain name back :(
|
Is this possible??

Your domain expired and someone else registered it. You are Shit Out Of Luck! |
I'm sorry to break the bad news to ya, but I don't think that there is anything that you can do, if you missed out on re-registering it, it's your tough luck for not being on the ball and re-registering it ahead of time.

ok whats the URL of your domain ?
|
So you didnt tried to re-register until February... better luck next time.
|
If the expiry was february 2003 and someone actually got the name in december 2002, its the registrars fault, and you should get your domain back.
If its network solutions, things could take a while though.... |
Possibility one... They got control of your domain in December, and you didn't notice. In which case, you suck... And the domain probably isn't very valuable anyhow, so who cares.
Possibility two... They got your domain when it expired. Maybe the December date is whey they initiated the snap, or a mistake. In which case, it all comes down to the fact that you should have renewed your domain. I'm sure it sucks. I'm just wondering if you can blame anyone else. |
You snooze, you lose:Graucho :1orglaugh

As I understand it, ICANN requires registrars to keep detailed records of any change requests, correspondence, and status changes for domains for something like five years.
I'd suggest posting the domain name here, or on a domain stalking forum; some people monitor domains themselves, and keep records, which might shed some light on what happened. If it turns out it was a normal expiration, there's nothing you can do, unless the name was trademarked, which I'm sure you would have mentioned. Well...actually you could try an ICANN name dispute anyway, alleging that the person who re-registered it did so in bad faith since you'd used the name for business purposes in the past...I don't think I've seen that approach taken, but if it's an unusual name like "phils-house-of-panties.com" or something (as opposed to a generic name), perhaps it would work; ICANN's arbitrators can be arbitrary. If it was lost to some reason other than expiration (registrar error, registrant fraud, or whatever), then there are a variety of legal recourses you could try. |
What domain?

Geez. Well, I lost my NON kiddy porn domain when I forgot to renew. Someone bottom feeder company pre-paid for it so I lost it 24 hours after it expired.
They wanted $1800 to buy it back form them. Fuuuuuuck. Lesson learned. |
I love catching dropped domain names from imcompetent webmasters.
There's a sucker born every minute. |
i dont get people like that (who forget to renew)
if the domains is worth something to them, why not spend a whooping 9 bucks (one McDonalds visit) and register it for an extra year ? |

They even have an extra month for the redemption period... Goodness! |
