I went to a bar today. A bar that is withing walking distance. I am well known there and I spent a major portion of the day there. I am an ex military man and pretty much a super patriot. My military career was ended in the 1st Gulf War. Anyhow there were some young bucks talking smack about the military and Bush's policy towards Iraq. I am not a big fan of Bush but I am a big fan of our military. I basically told the young dude to shut the fuck up. Blows were exchanged. At my age and being physically fucked up, I still put the SOB down for the count and in fact me and my friend drove him to the hospital for treatment. AIRBORNE!!!!

Not sure if I belive this. However, our US service men and women deserve utmost respect despite political views. They are the ones spending countless times away from friends and family etc. doing ther jobs. As a vet myself I am easily angered when I see some , for example, trust fund frat boy talking smack about service members.

There are times when it's cool to speak your mind and as Americans we are lucky to have that freedom. However like you, I don't mind exercising my freedom of speech as well to teach some punk ass bitch the meaning of respect.

I don't know what to make of you. In some political discussions you seem to have your shit together and other times you act like you're five years old. You go from rational discussion to name-calling in an instant. Don't even get me started on the you/Pathfinder shit.

Now you come on here to tell us how you're such a patriot and love your country so much that you kicked someone's ass for excercising the rights granted to him by the country you claim to love. How can you be so backward? The very thing that makes the United States great and the thing your beloved military fights so hard for is to give assholes like him the freedom to criticize WITHOUT fear of bodily harm or deprivation of freedom. You basically wiped your ass with the rights and freedoms of a country you claim to have spent 12 years defending.

The right of freedom of speech as long as you don't say "x" and as long as you don't say "y" isn't really freedom at all. You shouldn't be on here bragging about what you did. If you're such a patriot, you should be on here begging the forgiveness of all the American citizens you spit on with your childish actions.

Don't waste your time with that "hey, if he hates our freedoms so much he doesnt deserve them" reasoning, either. See above: the thing that makes it a freedom is that he is free to say it whether you like it or not. There is no freedom to physically assault people you don't like. Your medals and wings mean nothing if that is your interpretation of America.

Edit: I should make it clear that I don't agree with bad-mouthing our military. It is there for a reason and serves and extremely important purpose. The problem is that you have perverted that purpose. I consider myself a patriot. I love my country, but what I love about is it's purest form, where people are free to criticize it. That's the whole point. One of my very few regrets is that I didn't serve in the military but that doesn't mean I don't love my country.

Another edit: I do love my country. I don't care much for it's government or the direction it has been heading as of late.

Naah...it is simpler than all that. Of course you or anyone else have every right to excerisise free speech. Of course if I don't like what you are saying in front of me, you may need to have some dental work done. That is my freedom to disagree with or simply not like. with prejudice, the words that came from your pie hole. What free speech would have to be stated before you would respond physically?

If you are even half savy you can state your case, own the debate and remind your target that they are out of line and disrespectfull without resorting to blows.

No, that is not your freedom. The freedom to assault does not exist in America, no matter how much you disagree. If you believe that's your "right" or a freedom you have, you don't understand the country you supposedly served.

Well, that's a different issue. I'm not unrealistic. People have limits and violence happens. A personal attack is a different matter. If he said YOU are scum because YOU served in the military and YOU deserve to be blah blah blah... then I can understand a physical response. However, to assault someone merely for expressing an opinion you find distasteful is extremely lame. It doesn't matter how vociferous he was, it is his right to say what he wants. It's never your "right" to instigate physical violence.

Also, as a self-proclaimed patriot you should be held and should hold yourself to a higher standard of accepting others' rights to excercise their freedoms.

I couldn't have said it any better. Everyday since 9/11 we have lost a little bit more freedom. When the military brags about beating the people thet are sworn to protect we have reached a new low. People who serve their country in the defense of that country deserved the highest repect any citizen can give. But that doesn't give you the right to pound them because they said something you don't like. Let me see if I have this straight. You spent 12 years in the 82nd Airborne. That means for 12 years you spent almost every waking moment practicing how to kill people, in hand to hand combat if necessary. And you are in here bragging about beating the shit of some kid probably barely old enough to get in a bar, and certainly not a highly trained killing machine, that is low man. You must be real proud that you had to drive this kid to the emergency room. Why? Because he pissd you off.

If there were to be any charges being filed it would be me, I think, filing the charges. I told the kid to shut the fuck up and me being at least 20 years older and quite smaller he tried to take me out. Unfortunately for him, even though I have a physical problem, I am an experienced man and he was just a punk ass kid. So good night kid, plus when I am attacked as I stated in a TDF thread, make it so good that a person does not ever want to come back for more, thus the hospital. I have already conversed with the police and they will make their report to the DA and that is where it will end.
