If you went for a mainstream job would you tell them about adult work?

Hi

Lets say you go for an online marketing job and tell them you done mass blogging etc etc

They say, got any examples - then what?

Would you tell them it was in the adult industry?

Thx

I think you should make sure they are okay with viewing whatever your niche is, before you actually visually show them, but your relevant experience is your relevant experience.

Wikipedia and MySpace both came out of adult and it seems like nobody has an issue with it because they were able to deliver with their abilities.

Unless you are going to work for Christian Singles your experience as a professional working in the online adult entertainment industry should be an asset to be proud of! :thumbsup

Sure it's not illegal or anything. And if you are good at what you do and present yourself well, who gives a shit.

Jel 11-28-2013 04:31 AM

sure, if I didn't want the job.

Depending on your niche. If it is interracial shemale scat porn,or migdet-zoo porn, probably not the best idea.

True that.

My question is - why would you ever want to leave our industry? It's great here :pimp

I have a couple of mainstream sites. I mention them, but not the adult sites. That is what I say I am doing for my gaps between employment.

oliver fmc 11-28-2013 09:01 AM

In the US, no. In Europe, employers are much more understanding...

Robin 11-28-2013 09:09 AM

Tried it once and it was fun, the problem is when you have to get into details, the face of the person suddenly changed. Considering I am still in adult biz imagine I didn't get the job :).

PornDiscounts-V 11-28-2013 09:12 AM

Don't show samples!

TNVeric 11-28-2013 11:10 AM

Don't cross the streams

Let's just say I make every effort to hide my adult business from my mainstream job..

I was once in a meeting quite a few years back where we were working on the issue of transferring huge surveillance video files via what essentially was an airborne IP protocol, the platform had a web address just as if it was a webcam. Well I couldn't help but recommend certain video compression formats to reduce the bandwidth load, they were all impressed but immediately asked how the hell I knew so much about compression technology. It took me a few minutes to scramble around for an answer outside of the truth that I post divx, wmvs, flash, h.264 videos on my lesbian porn site! This was well before mp4s so I had to offer multiple formats for fast + slow machines, macs, etc..

I don't think I ever came up with a good answer as to why I knew about all those formats. It was also ironic that this industry which was supposed to be on the cutting edge, would benefit from porn technology ;)

GAMEFINEST 11-28-2013 11:28 AM

I wouldn't

:2 cents::2 cents:

how this goes.

An online 'startup' company who takes money from seniors to build them sites so they can 'sell wine to the world' has moral qualms of my selling smut online.. luckily the guy was a moron and i wanted a quick out

Yep. Jimmy Wales did Bomis. Bomis reportedly actually funded the initial years of Wikipedia.

Don't recall the name of Tom Anderson's Asian porn stuff offhand, but I actually first heard about MySpace because of it. I met Tila Tequila at a department store makeup counter (I was taking a model of mine shopping and someone she knew was with Tila Tequila) and the guy she was with was all talking about how this guy who was doing Asian porn and dating sites had selected Tila Tequila to be a brand ambassador for this new site which was going to be the biggest thing ever, bigger than LiveJournal, i.e. MySpace.

PPPPasquale 11-29-2013 08:01 AM

if they can't deal with porn, FUCK'EM:helpme

fitzmulti 11-29-2013 08:05 AM

I would, if I was asked, but there'd be no point in initially bringing it up.
If there were some clause in a contract that may have something to do with previous background detrimental to the new job, I may open up, but if it were not necessary to discuss...why bother?

anexsia 11-29-2013 08:05 AM

If you tried explaining the job of a webmaster/affiliate/etc to most jobs/companies in the real world...a lot of them wouldn't even know what the fuck you were talking about anyways but..

NO I would not list anything related to adult on my resume unless I was specifically asked by my potential employer

ErectMedia 11-29-2013 08:11 AM

Think I have 38 adult sites at the moment under company A. On the mainstream end 2 major sites and a ton of niche stores under company B. If I'm talking to someone in adult the 38 sites come out. If I'm talking mainstream the 2 major sites and ton of niche stores come out. I seperate both under different umbrellas and run as seperate models with no interlinking, different domain whois, etc...
