2MuchMark 06-13-2013 09:23 AM

Yeah, um, NOT A FAN...

I appreciate Hustler and the content they usually produce and Mr. Flint is god of course, but come on. This is in no way a "Parody" of Star Trek.

This is just using the name, property, characters, costumes, style, props and lots of other artwork created by lots of other truly creative and talented people, and calling it your own.

The true Parodies that Hustler does so well are parodies like this one :

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ellhustler.jpg

"This Ain't Star Trek", ain't no parody.

Yes indeed you could say same for star wars parody as well, they basicly did nothing different except changing names. They should look at spaceballs too see how good parody is made.

I am sure Mr. FlYnt will appreciate being likened to God. ;)

Seriously though, you aren't going to find many people at LFP that don't agree that the Falwell parody is iconic. It would be insanity to feel any other way even if you aren't in this industry but champion free speech.

All that said, this is a parody even if it isn't to your particular taste. You can't please everybody all of the time. However, what is important is that the Stark Trek titles we have done have been amongst our best sellers - ever. We can't make you like the title but we can tell you that people buy it and if you want to get a slice of that we are providing you with the tools to do so.

A parody (/ˈpærədi/; also called spoof, send-up or lampoon), in current use, is an imitative work created to mock, comment on or trivialise[citation needed] an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target, by means of satiric or ironic imitation.
Just wondering : Was use of the Star Trek brand, its characters and other works of art cleared with Viacom, Paramount, CBS etc?

Just a thought, but wouldn't it be better to let Larry and his team of lawyers worry about all that instead of badgering Sarah Jayne when she's clearly just trying to do her job?

I'm not badgering her. I'm sure Mr. Flynt has his i's dotted and t's crossed. I'm just wondering, from a legal point of view, if Hustler had to get permission from the owners of Star Trek to do this. If not, thats fine, I'm just asking a question.

It Ain't Star Trek....it is a parody

beyond that..

I don't sit in on many of the meetings with the vast legal staff that resides in this building. However, I have worked here long enough now to know nothing goes out without being checked over legally until they are satisfied.

I know we are satisfied with the attention they get. Hang in there for our Girls parody...the buzz on that is already in the Huffington Post and other publications.

Ah, well thanks for clearing that up. Your first two posts in this thread were quite shall we say confusing on that point.

At no point in my first 2 points did I mention Sarah. I don't know her and I don't think I've ever met her, and I know she's a sales rep. My question was about the content, not about Sarah.

I'm curious though how far this fake "parody" (yes, I placed it in quotes), stuff can go? If you can use copyright & trademark names like "Star Trek" in a porn movie and call it a parody, can you also use the names of real people? A title like "This Ain't Gene Roddenbury's takes it up the ass: A Porn Parody" comes to mind...
