It's called the My Lai massacre and it's a well documented part of US military history. Not one man, woman or child walked out of that village alive that day. They were all murdered and the village torched.

The real facts are that no unit, big or small take prisoners unless they are ordered to do so and this order depends upon the circumstances. This applies less to larger units than it does for small units.

Are you telling me that there was NEVER a massacre by Australians of Aborigines? Never a massacre by British of Indians (in India, not the Old American West). The Germans never massacred anyone? The Italians? The Russians? The Japanese? The fucking Vatican Army? Guess what, it has happened more times that history can record. My Lai was just one of the first instances where the press was able to document it and put it on the news back home.

2. The USA DID NOT WIN WWII. You lost under 300,000 soldiers. The Russians lost 13.5 million fighting the Germans. It was the Russians who marched into Berlin.
3. Many other nations, including Australia (which was bombed by the Japanese) fought in the Pacific, so again stop acting like you did it all on your own. We defended OUR country. YOU didn't save us.
4. I never said it was the only massacre ever to have occurred, but it was perpetrated by the armed forces of a nation who claim constantly that they are fighting for freedom and all that's right and good.
5. Learn your history.

I think what you have to realise is a lot of Americans see the rest of the world through the version Holleywood shows them.

Yes Pathfinder. Innocent people die in wars, I know people who had relatives bombed in the Blitz on London. But that is a world away from murdering children at point blank range.

War must be the last alternative not the first. I truly believe that we will have to go to war with Saddam. But the two leading the charge have to show us the evidence they have, if they have it, and show us their is no alternative.

When I say we I mean the rest of the world.

9/11 was an attack on the US and the US was jusified in what it did in Afghanistan. However with Iraq this is a matter for the UN to decide, not the US. Unless the US can provide PROOF that the attack came from Iraq.

How come every person outside the USA thinks that we learn our history from Hollywood? That wars happened EXACTLY the way the were depicted in Pearl Harbor, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Patton, The Big Red One, Tora, Tora, Tora, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Patriot, Glory, Three Kings, etc..

Most of us have a grandfather, uncle, cousin, or some other family member or friend that fought in a war. We have access to libraries full of books that were not written by CNN, NBC, ABC, or CBS. We are smart enough to know the difference between reality and escapism.

BTW.. We also know that Jurassic Park and Godzilla were not real. Give us some credit.
