How much does a house cost where you live?

I have it on my mind to buy a house this year, but they're too expensive in my area.

How bad are they where you live?

Stramm 02-08-2003 10:14 AM

100k to 10.000k or even more

EscortBiz 02-08-2003 10:15 AM

600K-2.2mil

stocktrader23 02-08-2003 10:15 AM

Broke part of the states here. An upper middle class home here is 60k to 120k. Middle clase 40k to 60k.

KRL 02-08-2003 10:18 AM

In South Florida they are about $250,000 to $25 Million. I saw this gorgeous one when I was out boating this weekend. Its on the intercoastal and would probably be about $10 Mil +.

Holy Shit !!!

:eek7

Vox 02-08-2003 10:26 AM

50 to 75$ sq.ft just for the land in my area.

gothweb 02-08-2003 10:27 AM

Houses here seem to start at about £100,000... That is about $165,000. Of course, anywhere you go, there is a wide range. The real question is how much do you get for your buck.

Niki 02-08-2003 10:31 AM

30k - 300k ... pretty cheap, but I still live in a rented apartment :)

Was that in Fort Lauderdale?
I saw a house just like that in Fort Lauderdale, right on the water, with a gazebo on the right and to the left outside of the picture was a dock.
It was the nicest house I had ever seen.

SR 02-08-2003 10:39 AM

Wow sweet house!
In my city houses start at around 180K for a real small one
A nice one is around 1,000,000

dacash 02-08-2003 10:41 AM

Here for a regular house, it's $50K and for a 4400 Sq/Ft with marble everything would be $250K

Ross 02-08-2003 10:43 AM

Fuck me thats a nice house!

For a 3 bedroom house over here in a decent area your talking about $150,000

for something like that..... wait.... we wouldn't have a house like that in Scotland :(

prices on long Island are INSANE-all time high!300000 would get you a small house

Tala 02-08-2003 10:55 AM

Dayum. :eek7

Houses out here start at about 80k, with some of the nicest ones at around 300k.

They figure if they sell cheap, someone will deal with living around rednecks and bugs in the humidity of summer.

Fuck that. I'm leaving as soon as I graduate college.

Juicy D. Links 02-08-2003 10:56 AM

500,000 for a decent place upwards to 1 million +

L0stMind 02-08-2003 10:59 AM

I just bought a house yesterday for $290k canadian...

3 floors, 2400 sq feet. 66 x 142 lot. Detached carport...

character home with 1940's fir hardwood floor, 8 month ol appliances and it even has has a separate suite in the basement. But I am thinking to turn the suite into a games room - pool table, etc.

I payed $225K for mine 2 years ago (3 bed/2 bath w/ pool), now worth about $300K. Still one of the cheapest houses my area.

I love the real estate market.

Kat - Fast 02-08-2003 11:22 AM

I paid £27k for a 3 bedroom house here 5 years ago - they've gone up to £40k since then :)

angelsofporn 02-08-2003 11:26 AM

have one in escrow for 750K has 2.75 acres pool, view avocado groves though..north san diego..also 1 Bdroom condo for 180K...600 square feet..close to beach

Honeyslut 02-08-2003 11:31 AM

here's a great link to get prices of houses on the market..

http://www.realtor.com

We paid 130k in 96 for our place on 4 acres. When the addition is done, we figure it will be worth around 500 or 600 k.. Maybe even more since our next door neighbors is for sale for almost 700k and she has crappy land with hills..

Rictor 02-08-2003 11:31 AM

How much is a house here in Indianapolis? Well, depends on if you want to live in the ghetto, a middle class family neighborhood, some upscale gated community, or have a bunch of land and a big house on the outskirts of the city. I can tell you this, it's MUCH cheaper than anywhere else in the country to live here. In the city in a halfway decent neighborhood, you can get a pretty nice house for 100k. In the best neighborhood your are looking at 200k-several million.

Tala 02-08-2003 11:34 AM

Saw one in Pittsburgh for $19900, three bedroom, two bath, nice house on nice lot...foreclosure.

If I had the $19k, I'd be moving. This month. I hate TN.

Want the listing?

BJ 02-08-2003 11:35 AM

1600 sqft 2 bdrm condo in chicago 325k in wrigleyville (ripoff)

Marcus 02-08-2003 11:37 AM

Any Americans here ever bought property in Canada? Was it difficult to do?
I go to Montreal all the time and the condos there are so cheap.

I have this daydream in my head of spending summers in Canada and winters in Florida.

trust me-unless you enjoy shoveling, you would not like a winter in pitts.

AOLGuy 02-08-2003 01:16 PM

down here they are 200-300k for a nice one... 150-200 for a Condo (San Gabriel Valley).

In the Central Valley--Modesto/Merced/Turlock they are 80k for a nice one... granted, who'd want to live there?

Plugger 02-08-2003 02:10 PM

$400,000+ gets you a 1/2 acre(1/4 acre usable) of dirt here . . . nice dirt however . . .

That same house here in Winnipeg would cost you about $100k less than what you paid. Maybe less than that even. $150K - $200K Cdn will go a LONG way towards a kickass house here.

But a decent 3 bedroom bungalow in a nice neighborhood will run you $80k - $120k depending. Then there are cheaper homes in lower-class areas that will go for $70K+ all the way down to $25K, again...depending.

* As of today, $100,000 Cdn = $65,000 USD.

$100,000 USD = $152,000 Cdn.

As stated before $600k +++ is the starting point. You can always pay $295k for a decent 1 bedroom condo if you don't wanna spend the money on a full house type thing.
