Health Insurance for US webmasters - Do you need it?

We are curious how many US based webmasters currently have health insurance. If you do not have it would you be be interested?

Discuss.

ARS ran a similar survey around 3 to 4 years ago. Massive response in the AFFIRMATIVE. I'm based in the Philippines now but my health insurance is US-based. Health insurance is extremely important (given the recent rising rate trend).

After Shock Media 11-01-2006 04:10 PM

Would not qualify if it happened. Not a chance in hell it would cover anything with me.

BigCashCrew 11-01-2006 04:39 PM

Keep your posts up. Tell me if you have it or not.

TheSenator 11-01-2006 04:52 PM

Yeah, and it is not getting any cheaper for a family of five.

The risk of not having health insurance would be catastrophic to my entire family.

I concur.

BigCashCrew 11-01-2006 05:15 PM

Yes, that would be very bad.

pr0 11-01-2006 05:30 PM

eZe 11-01-2006 06:07 PM

I have insurance but it is expensive and not very good. I would love a group plan.

Kimo 11-01-2006 06:28 PM

I was also asked a week or two ago. Almost everyone who responded had health insurance.

:2 cents:

Speaking as someone who recently had cancer health insurance is a big deal. Had I not had excelent coverage treatment would have been in the 100,000$ range.

pigman 11-01-2006 07:55 PM

Its a must, you never know what will happen.

TheSenator 11-01-2006 08:00 PM

A group plan for webmaster would be excellent. We should be able to get better rates.

BigCashCrew 11-01-2006 10:00 PM

Senator,
If we can get lots of webmasters who need health insurance it would be great.

I am astounded at the percentage of people without health insurance.

That would be nice, however it's not that easy for most people to relocate.

this would be a massive and I hate to say it... almost impossible challenge. Health insurance is state to state and each state has differing laws and regulations. I think it could be done under one corporation that covered all 50 of the US States and its territories but it would not be a simple matter.

as far as interested goes... Hell yes I am interested if the plan is good. I can get an over priced, high deductible policy that I cant afford myself :)

Forest 11-02-2006 10:12 AM

We spoke with a benefits specialist and there are national health care providers available. Please ICQ me so I can have you on my list.

Roughly, how much does health insurance cost for say a family of 5, me, my wife, and 3 kids ??

I always thought that decent insurance would be in the $1,000 range, so I stayed away from it because I figure that if it'd cost me $12,000 a year for insurance, I'd be better off just paying the couple of office visits that happen in the year's time.

We're still on the younger side, 32, but I'd like to dig into some because we're only getting older and that's when stuff starts happening.

Yeah, but what if someone needs a major surgery????? It could be a WHOLE lot more than $12,000.

Yeah, that's true. I look at it this way though, I've been doing this full time for 6 years now without insurance, so 6 x $12,000 = $72,000 that I saved. In another couple of years, I'd have saved enough for heart bypass surgery, ha ha ha.

Yeah but the question is do you have $72,000 in the bank account to pay for the bypass?

Here is the thing about not being insured, you pay the sticker price of medical care. If you have insurance, they negotiate down what you pay. For example, a $150 visit may only cost $100, even if you are still in your deductable. Now imagine if that was $150,000 bypass.

The question about premiums depends on the size of the group and the demographics. Please visit this post http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=673116 about the group.

anyone else not post on the poll yet?
