Is the governor of Louisiana to blame?

I hear in many different articles that certain things have not been done by the feds "because no governors have requested it". Well New Orleans is where all the big problems are, fires, people, etc. and apparently she isnt requesting the help thats needed to take care of whats going on?

Emeregency fire and rescue equipment placed around the country for use in catastrophes has not been called in because no one asked for it.

Why didn't the Mayor use those 250 school buses to take the poor people out before the storm hit?

Dagwolf 09-03-2005 12:32 PM

There was a hurricane. What should the governor do, track down and request each and every fire truck and rescue worker by name?

I think it's a federal responsibility to see that federal resources go where they're needed.

Dagwolf 09-03-2005 12:36 PM

The governor's responsibility would be to keep the feds informed of the need.

Governor: There's are 200 people stranded on west main
Fed:....
(2 days later)
Governor: Why didn't those people get picked up yet?
Fed: You didn't ask!

chaze 09-03-2005 12:52 PM

yes, 99%

They should of prepared for a disaster better, if they where this vulnerable it should of been addresses and a pryor plan made for this situation.

A city with no drain, cmon how stupid can the government for that state be.

Retards.

Ninja Scripts 09-03-2005 01:01 PM

No it is not her fault. They are trying to cover their asses.

Bush declared all 3 states a federal disaster BEFORE the storms hit so they could act quickly. You decide.

Blame Katinna and stop fucking blaming people. Goddammit, donate some money instead of this stupid blame game shit.

The governor was on TV crying a few days ago because the help she asked for wasn't there. They are full of shite.

You have 2 days to evacuate 1.2 million people. Ok GO!

EXACTLY, I have seen that woman so many times begging in tears for help, so to even CONSIDER blaming her is the single most insane thing I think I have seen. You can see in her face that she has been up for days and she's visibly distraught by it all. And what are they doing? Sitting in their cush dwelling pointing fingers at everyone they can, including the victims. Why didn't they leave. WELL FUCK ME, 90% of them probably couldn't afford it or had nowhere to fucking go.

Sorry, I am shitty about that blaming the victims and that Governor.

The feds were ready for this storm since Friday or Saturday. They tried to play off the rioting excuse for a little while but they aren't taking care of MS or AL either. Who knows what in the hell is going on with them but they really blew it with this shit. If 10,000 or more people are dead it's going to be damn hard for them to live this one down.

Dont think Mayor has authorities like that? The problem wasnt before the storm hit... the problems were the reactions after the storm hit.

No you idiot. The government has to request certain federal help before the feds can help on certain things, by law.

Well then why do all the news sources have articles or stories saying that she hasnt requested the basic things, she hasnt declared martial law, like the New Orleans mayor requested, she hasnt done MUCH Of anything.

After Shock Media 09-03-2005 01:18 PM

I just love the spin this has started to take.
I know the state must ask for federal help otherwise the federal government can not send in troops. I also know that the govenor asked for like 40,000 troups at the very start so lets place that aside.
I thought we had FEMA for a reason, and I also always thought that it had the word managment in its name for a reason.
This whole bullshit about not asking for help just sickens me. The governor asked for troops and said to send them in. I am pretty sure the federal government was aware there was a horrific disaster going on. Did all the other govenors who have had giant disasters go through this and fill out some form packet in triplicate with the correct color coded cover sheet to get help?
This is akin to my house being on fire with people trapped inside.
Me: Help my house is on fire and people are still inside.
911: Thanks, it has been noted.
10 minutes latter.
Me: There is no fire trucks please send help.
911: Sorry you did not ask for fire trucks before, what is your address?
Me: 555 some street, some town.
911: Fire trucks are on the way.
5 minutes latter:
Me: The fire trucks are not doing anything.
911: Sorry sir, we dispatched them and they are outside your address waiting for orders, according to our records you have not asked them to do anything yet.
10 more minutes latter.
Me: There are people hurt and burnt badly, the firemen are not helping them.
911: You asked them to put out the fire sir, you did not request an ambulance nor medical attention.
Me: But the firemen are not putting out the fire yet either, they do not have any water.
911: Im sorry sir but according to our records you only asked for firetrucks, you made no mention of them bringing water.

You know? At this point I don't think it is going to matter, they have fucked up and people are NOT going to forget this.... especially those victims in those states. It is all so damn sad. If I had the means to do so, I'd be bringing as many as I could of them up here with me. This is just insane watching those people struggle like this and not even be able to depend on their own government to help them when they need it.

I think I have been watching and listening to this WAY too much. Yikes!!

They were told by the feds the same line of b/s you asked about in your first post. If you really think she's twiddling her thumbs and not doing something as simple as asking for help they have accomplished what they wanted. She was crying DAYS ago about not getting the help she requested. If she was already crying about it when do you think she asked?

Also, FEDERAL AGENCIES were set up in locations so they could move in as soon as the storm passed. Do you really think they are going to sit there and watch people die because someone didn't say please come in?

This is all a big blame game now, of course the lower officials will take the heat. This was completely fucked on multiple levels.

I WATCHED her on TV with my own eyes screaming for help. She was on the Today Show, CNN, and lord only knows what else.... she WAS and has been begging for help. Right off the bat she started telling them she needed like 40k troops and all this shit. I wouldn't even be discussing this with you but I seen it with my own eyes, and I know if I did, then everyone else on the planet did. lol

It would probably help if you had any idea of how things work around here. States have rights, and the feds can not step in until requested.

Heywood Jablome 09-03-2005 01:23 PM

The city and state should have had effective evacuation plans ready.

The city should have had their shelters stocked with supplies for those they knew wouldn't/couldn't evacuate.

Because they blew it, the Federal responders had to change their plans from rescuing dying people to flying in supplies to the shelters and keep law and order in the community. Thousands of people have died because of the city's lack of basic preparation.

The fact is that the governor is a democrat, if she were a republican you can be sure the finger pointing would have started the very first day of this disaster. I saw an op-ed piece where Robert Kennedy Jr was blaming the hurricane directly on MS Governor Haley Barbour, and I'm sure everyone has seen the Bush bashing going on.

I lived in Napa for about 19 years and it would flood every 5 or so. I meant the idiots never create a channel for the river and it probably still floods now.

It's the governments responsibility to have city's be at least to a minimum of function ability.

It discusses me that we can spend 120 billion of military jets but not 20 million on a getter for a city that needs it.

I mean why have the jets if we are going to let the people die that we are trying to protect.

Yeah, they become eligible for assistance at that point. The state still has to ask for assistance at that point.

Blame the Democrats.

It was requested, multiple times, by multiple people, days ago. I suppose you'd rather have us think that not one but three state governors who are facing a huge disaster failed to make a simple request for help? George Bush in his little photo op in MS was the first federal agent those people had seen during the entire ordeal. The governor should have kicked him in the nuts.

Not only did she ask for help repeatedly. They have been asking for help for the last 10 fucking years, saying that they needed funding to make the levies strong enough, and were denied funding everytime... I bet that would have been a lot cheaper than what it's gonna cost us now.

Memo: Terrorists will fly planes into our buildings

Memo: Congress WAS helping fund the levees. They already authorized half of the total requested amount.

It's funny you mention the levies. Do you realize that that first breached levy was actually in the process of being upgraded? Maybe if Clinton would have paid for the levies, they would have been done by now.

I guess dig a hole, make a lake, create a 20 million dollar pump, create better dikes, not sure really.

My point isn't just the Governor fucked up it's the we do not as country spend enough to keep the city's that need extra help up to standard.

Even if the Governor put everything into getting this done it's not likely it would of been approved but I still blame here for not trying. I mean it's her job to put pressure on the presidential government, that how things get done.

Letters are crap too, if she really wanted results then go to Washington and raise hell until it's done.

Our whole political system is not near where it should be in my opinion with the safety of our country.
