anyone here earning more than $100k per year and driving a car worth less than $10k?

or even more "extreme" ? :)

like the guy who was bragging about his first million yesterday who drives a 1995 Dodge....

Digipimp 07-21-2007 02:58 AM

i have a used yugo

Lee 07-21-2007 03:56 AM

I do but Im married with kids and living in a rural area so a 7 seater thats reliable is more important than having a flash motor.

Herb Kornfield 07-21-2007 06:01 AM

*rasies hand* ..... Its just a Truck that gets me from point A to B.

I prefer to have my house, land, investments, business, and collection of vintage guitars rather than blow a ton of cash on a ride.

Yup, one of my cars is a '99 Ford Explorer. I love that thing and will drive it into the ground...

StuartD 07-21-2007 06:28 AM

you can get a car for less than $10k?

Anyway, I've got a 2007 minivan that's worth way more than $10k but still, I look at it as a tool to get me and my family places. And a tool needs to be made right but doesn't need to be shiny and great to look at.

I don't spend way more money than I need to just to have the coolest looking monkey wrench. So the same goes for my vehicle.

now, but you can buy a car for $25k or whatever and after a few years it's worth not more than $10k.... (or just buy a used one)

I dated a guy making well over $1mil a year and was driving a 10 year old minivan. That was in 2001. I drove by his house a few weeks ago on my way out of town and the minivan is still there ;) BTW, he lives in a small 2BR/1BA house too, lol. Paid cash for it when he graduated from college and just hasn't seen a need to move. He owns homes a LOT nicer that he rents out. He also owns trailers he rents out for $90 a week and said most of the tenants have nicer cars than him.

Now talk to him about clothes, electronics and food - THAT'S where his money goes. And he has a bit saved up ;) He closed his business back in 03 and has been retired since. 40 years old now.

IllTestYourGirls 07-21-2007 10:40 AM

yes, I drive an older Subaru. I have been looking to upgrade though. (100k is not from this biz)

good story. A reminder its not how much you make but how much you spend :thumbsup

I don't see anything wrong with it, I don't see the need to drop huge cash on a car when it depreciates so fast. Good for those people who don't blow the cash on cars.

I agree, though I will soon be guilty of doing it. We both drive RSX's no? You sport the type S or standard?

You will always take a hit in terms of depreciation with cars, but you can buy an exotic and not lose anything if you get one that has a long waiting list. Get a new Ferrari models the first year, and you could flip it for atleast 100K over MSRP.

I see those new 599's going for 6 figures over MSRP.

polish_aristocrat 07-22-2007 09:33 AM

anyone else?

Evil E 07-22-2007 09:38 AM

I paid 300$ for my last 2 cars(had the last one for little less than a year) but I won't disclose my income. I can tell you that it's less than 100k but more than 50k.

KingpinMedia 07-22-2007 09:40 AM

I drive a 2000 Alero, huge piece of shit. Was my wife's when we met. I gave my other car away and since we have no car payment, since this car is paid off, I'm in no rush to buy a new car. I'd rather stash that money away into investments.

TheDoc 07-22-2007 09:41 AM

I paid more for my car but it's currently only worth about $10k, I paid $8k for my truck, and $21k for the Jetta.

Chris 07-22-2007 09:45 AM

13k car

im a simple kinda guy

polish_aristocrat 07-28-2007 02:55 AM

FuqALot 07-28-2007 03:04 AM

Well... $10k would be 10% of $100k.

I drive a car that is about 2% of my yearly income.

KimJI 07-28-2007 03:09 AM

I have a 2002 Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon. Is more then enough for me, and I think I will keep it for another 4-5 year. Its a smooth, fast and eco ride, and it looks great. What else do you need really?

This is how they look

MikeSmoke 07-28-2007 03:12 AM

Not sure...how much is a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder turbo convertible with 70K miles on it worth? :winkwink:

ServerGenius 07-28-2007 03:16 AM

I do, currently I'm driving a 200 euro opel corsa but I also have a 150 euro
Fiat cinquecento :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

GreyWolf 07-28-2007 03:19 AM

For practical purposes got an SUV which sure is not worth $10K now and would never dream of buying a new one as long there are no problems.

The roads and terrain can be extreme and depreciation would be silly on a new vehicle. Not into looking at cars much as long as they move from A to B and don't like shopping for shit which depreciates - appreciating assets are more interesting.

NTM 07-28-2007 03:21 AM

edit: whats wrong with driving good cars?

nekrom 07-28-2007 03:23 AM

I drive a 6year old sedan car, that only cost me $23k in 2001. Gets me from point A to point B and is reliable. I'm not a car fanatic otherwise I prolly would have some fancy import. :)
