The HIV ordeal... WHY the HELL...
WHY the HELL... do so many of the performers feel safe without protection, just because their "partners" (for that hour), have a clean test? Doesn't anybody realize that it can take months to test positive after being exposed? Most people do test positive in the first three months, the average is 20 days, but it can take 6 months or more to show up! I believe testing is important, but it still leaves a HUGE w.indow of risk. I think the tests are good for showing that someone is definitely positive, but a clean test doesn't really say anything other than that the person hasn't tested positive... for the time being, although they still may be carrying the virus.
Condoms have shown to be 98-100% effective in preventing the spread of HIV (when used regularly and properly). It seems to me that in an industry that regularly has sex with multiple partners, the absolute best method of prevention is a combination of routine testing, use of condoms (preferably used in conjunction with a spermicidal lubricant) and EDUCATION. Anyone that doesn't want to use a condom is at high risk of compromising their health and their lives for a few extra bucks. For the people that say Lara was young and didn't know any better, that's where education comes into play. These people need to be able to make educated decisions based on facts and statistics and if they are still willing to have unprotected sex for more money, so be it. I just don't want to hear them whining about it when they test positive. I thought the education part was a given... I can hardly believe that anyone would think they are safe, just because of a clean test... I believe most of these people do/did know the facts, maybe they just don't care, maybe they felt it couldn't happen to them, maybe they were just greedy. It all boils down to these words, which I actually posted in one of the other threads: Anyone that fucks without protection is at risk, regardless of what the tests say. We know it... the performers know it. It's like a game of Russian Roulette... you keep playing without the safety on, you'll likely end up losing sooner or later. I know that sounds harsh, but I'm by no means saying that anyone deserves this... just that everyone that takes that risk, knows it's a risk... and made that choice. |
Look something like that have never happen before . It's just bad luck for the industry . This had to happen one day to make people scared . From now on I think we'll see a lot of condoms in porn movies.

I guess it is that "it can''t happen to me" mentality. Go figure. I hope they made enough money to survive being out of the industry once they have been tested positive.
Maybe they will just move to Brazil. |
its also amazing what a junkie will do without thinking

By the way, this thread is also aimed at all the people I've seen post "but they were tested", "I'm shocked!" etc.

it has, and this won't be the last time it does. everytime I read threads like this I realize more and more how separate the internet adult stuff is from the film side. 99% of this place is clueless about LA and the level of production that flows from it, and how things are done here. is someone gonna start threads about how the girls here have PIMPS? that say who they can work for and who they cant? hahaha if you people knew how it was in LA, some of you would probably leave the industry. :thumbsup |
I think as long as the consumer asks for the non condom shoots they will continue to do so.
They need to have stricter regulations where you get test more frequently. Also where if you goto trouble regions of the world you are on restriction when you return to the US beore you can work again etc. |

... but most of them should be smart enough (or have enough common sense) to know the facts. |

Testing only goes so far. A negative test doesn't mean they aren't carrying the virus and can't pass it onto others. Let's say they make it mandatory to test every 14 days. What good will that do for the people that carry it for three months before testing positive? |

all i meant was, i find it funny you sound surprised. the industry has been the same here for years, only younger looking fresher girls. methods have not changed. i am not surprised about this. when Dugmor made his thread about "coming to la" you can look it up, I posted the first thing he should do is hit AIM, and posted phone numbers and addys. I am for increasing the age of girls to 21 and limiting girls to partners and testing IN ADVANCE because of ghestation periods which you have brought up. I dont know why you think I am saying your wors dont mean anything. I posted earlier and said: "its only now some of you sit up and act like theres a problem, when in fact, we here in LA have been dealing with the problem for 10 years, and its only NOW some of you notice." that is my opinion. this is not some *new problem* :thumbsup |

My reason for starting this thread at this point in time, is that I was getting fed up by reading all the ignorant posts in other threads. |

and I think being hiv positive they can get disability or something like that. |

this board is filled with people who have no clue, which is what I stated above, but you somehow thought I was referring to YOu personally, that was your mistake. I was talking about the idiots who dont live here and dont really know shit about porn. I live in the fucking heart of it all. I can pick up the paper and find listing after listing lookeing for "talent" this valley is porn la keeps this industry going. |

For several years though, I've looked at tons of condom free porn and have always questioned the people that do it. It's something that has always bothered me. While I was aware that there were isolated cases of HIV here and there, I always knew that at some point there would be a major outbreak (within the industry) and found it hard to believe the lack of precaution that was being taken. Even then I heard many people referring to testing and feeling safe because of clean tests, and even then, I knew it wasn't enough. Maybe this is the beginnings of the major outbreak I saw coming... maybe it isn't... but if people's mindsets and methods don't change soon, it is inevitable, it will come. |

I have gone out with pornstars after shoots, seen them party, fuck someone not industry related and be back on cam the next day test in hand ;) :thumbsup |
I never jerk off to condom porn. Just a big turnoff. That leads me to think it probably won't become mainstream.
If the health risk in porn goes up, you might find less people willing to do it and they might have to pay a little more money to the actors...but that's probably about it. |
Orgasmics: heres some stuff from earlier regarding condoms.

It has happened before, Marc Wallice lied about his HIV test a few years ago and infected five girls with HIV. I also know of another case of Brooke Ashley getting infected from some gangbang. Another pornstar named Nena Cherry also got HIV.
John Stagliano, I think he's the owner of Elegant Angel or something like that, also caught HIV in Brazil a few years ago. It happens, and then people go sans condom for awhile, until everyone forgets what happened a few months ago, and then they probably go back to without condoms again. Big outbreaks already happened (Marc Wallice) and some people STILL don't care and continue shooting porn without condoms, no matter how many people get infected I bet there will always be girls so desperate for money they will do it anyways. This is not the way it should be, but unfortunately I think that's the way it is. |
Why do people feel safe...
1) Everyone feels safe because AIM has convinced everyone that it is. It is not safe and it is sad that it takes this for people to finally understand that. 2) Some people think they are invincible. |
same question darren and laura are probably asking themselves

yeah, i can't see why people are so surprised... prostitutes are always contracting HIV and other STD's... Pornstars are no different.
There was a list someone posted on here a while ago "pornstar causes of death" or something... the HIV section was HUGE. |

If a film producer has the choice of two girls - one who will work with and one who will work without the choice most prodcuers will make is obvious. It's the same with hookers - girls who won't work without a condom get less work than those who will do it bare back. Those who stick to their principles and only work with protection still have to face the temptation offered by clients who are prepared to pay large premiums for bare back - an extra $1k is hard to turn down for 30 minutes work |

I have NEVER shot a scene in LA . I personally have not shot a scene since October 2003. I am too fat to perform on camera and I am happy just doing marketing for now. |

The risks may be high - regardless of the job - but sometimes people find themselves in a situation where those risks may be acceptable because there is simply no alternative. Most of us sit for long hours day in and day out in front of our computers despite knowing that it is extremely detremental to our health - but we still do it because there is often no other alternative. Just taking a brain dump here. |

I don't feel they deserve sympathy, when they repeatedly make the same bad decision day in and day out, regardless of the warnings. Quote:

it may be self inflicted but its surely done through ignorance and being naive. until youve seen an 18 year old girl cry after doing her first anal scene, you havent witnessed the desperation involved in some of the girls that pass through these cameras. i rarely have compassion, but have seen some horrible shit over the years. orgasmics, some of the girls that hit la were kicked out of their homes at young ages, come to la looking to strip dance and wind up in porn because simply in LA, if you dance, you end up fucking on camera. Why? because like Hollywood FIlms, this city is FILLEd with new talent, both mainstream and not, and there are TOO MANY STRIPPERS HERE so most turn to porn. These girls literally get dropped off in Chatsworth by a bus, and walk a few blocks and hit a porn studios, youd really have to see it to believe it, at least try to imagine. :glugglug |
