People who ride motorcycles are stupid

Just got off the phone with someone I know who is visiting the Florida institute of neurological rehabilitation and she says that 90% of the people there were in motorcycle crashes. 85% of those will be retards or veggies for life. Wow.

Marcus Aurelius 06-20-2013 06:01 PM

Several guys I work with have motorcycles. Every one of them has had at least once crash that has put them in the hospital. One of them is still in really bad condition after more than a year.

keysync 06-20-2013 06:03 PM

Bad shit happens.

Riding is awesome. You should try it some time before you call anyone stupid.

Grapesoda 06-20-2013 06:09 PM

maybe people that drive cars are assholes?

clicker 06-20-2013 06:10 PM

If you are going to ride, you are going to crash. Be as Safe as you can.

Webmaster Advertising 06-20-2013 06:15 PM

Love to ride, unfortunately idiots are everywhere... Some of them ride bikes, some of the drive cars, some of them fly planes...

People in cars kill more bikers than any other single reason

Quote:

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, head-on collisions account for more than half of all fatal motorcycle accidents in the United States. These crashes almost always involve a passenger vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle is usually at fault. Since it?s more difficult for a car driver to see a motorcyclist, the risk of head-on collision where the car driver is at fault is more likely.

The next factor that causes motorcycle accidents is vehicles making left-hand turns. These types of accidents are responsible for close to 42% of motorcycle fatalities. Typically, a vehicle making a left-hand turn will crash into a motorcyclist that?s driving straight through an intersection, trying to get past the vehicle faster than it can turn. Most vehicles making a left-hand turn that results in an accident will be at fault, unless the motorcyclist was speeding or was in the wrong lane.

I've crashed twice, I expect I'll crash again, I have no plans to sell my bike

Ride Safe :)

Probably a good idea to crash in your driveway first to get that out of the way.

Rochard 06-20-2013 06:45 PM

The biggest problem with motorcycles is the crotch rockets - they are very fast and very cheap; You can spend $10k on a crappy used car or $10k on a brand new fast bike. Toss in some experience and it's a deadly combination.

I used to ride daily.... Never had an accident, thankfully.

54 years old been riding for 40 years, still haven't been injured and certainly haven't been killed. What I think is stupid is someone that calls Bikers stupid for being free and enjoying life to it's fullest. What's stupid is being afraid to do things like riding a bike because you might get hurt!

brassmonkey 06-20-2013 06:46 PM

the old guy is going to be mad :1orglaugh white beard like santa

ExtremeBank_Adam 06-20-2013 07:10 PM

I have ridden bikes all of my life (I'm 39). I got my first bike when I was about 5, and probably had a couple dozen since, including various dirtbikes (and 4-wheelers). I've done some incredibly stupid things over the years, but I have never been down. I've been rear ended and forced off the road, but never went down. Florida absolutely sucks for owning a bike... those snowbirds will look right at you then pull out in front of you.

For the first time in a long time, I actually no longer have a bike. Sold mine last year (Suzuki GSX-R 1000) after losing two friends in separate accidents in a couple weeks. Wife was spooked, bike was sold... sold hers, too.

But, been itching for a while, and was thinking about getting the Aprilia RSV1000. Great looking bike, and I need my fix. :-)

If you lost 2 friends or even 4 in car accidents would you quit driving? Sorry I truely believe when it's your time to go it really doesn't matter how, enjoy life and do what you enjoy! :2 cents:

scuba steve 06-20-2013 07:29 PM

anything is dangerous if you aren't dumb about it. i've had some close calls, and its because people driving are careless. i've also been in an accident where i was at a stop light and rear ended at 40mph by a drunk driver. can't live life scared

purecane 06-20-2013 07:31 PM

Yep, like I said, it sounds like YOU are the asshole.

Some Guy 06-20-2013 07:32 PM

I fucking hate motorcycles. Not only are they dangerous, they're extremely loud and annoying. Nothing sucks worse than when you're trying to have a conversation with somebody or just enjoy a nice, quiet day and some homo on a Harley drives by at 1,000 decibels. I was at a red light earlier and the douche on a motorcycle in front of me kept revving their engine for no good reason. It's like, "hi, notice me." Stupid.

It was more of a request from my wife. She put hers up for sale, and asked if I'd sell mine, too. Pretty please with a blowjob on top. I gave in, then bought a boat a month later. Now I'm thinking of getting another bike...

brassmonkey 06-20-2013 07:56 PM

I have a Harley with loud aftermarket pipes, they do sound cool, they set off car alarms. But when I pull up next to some dip shit wearing ear buds checking out his nose hair in the rear view, he knows I'm there.

He may have some issues with his bike, you don't know. I rev the bike to check for anything coming loose. You can feel it

I doubt it, BTW, they hate each other.

I wear a new high tech helmet that has a brake light built into it that works off a blue tooth transmitter I installed in the tail light

Wonder what the stats would be if there where better drivers that got better driving education (not from mom and dad) and if you lost your license when you lost your time of reaction, sight ect. If you get in the car and take more than 5 minutes you should lose your driving licenses. (just kidding but you know what I mean) this thread started about death in FL hmmm where do all the old folks go to die that can't see or react in a timely manner?

Lester Burnham 06-20-2013 08:51 PM

I own a hot tub (drowning risk), boat (drowning risk), guns (shooting risk) and plan to buy a motorcycle soon. I'm also black male. So I'm clearly fucked.

So true. When I was in my teens it was no big deal. Now I'm... somewhat older... it's a big fucking deal. A broken leg, for example, would keep me from working and living life as usual for maybe six months.

L-Pink 06-20-2013 09:18 PM

Ride every chance I get. Once put more than 50,000 miles on in 18 months.

mardigras 06-20-2013 09:47 PM

I quit doing anything on 2 wheels because too many people on 4 wheels are doing everything but watching the road:Oh crap

Not just paranoia, got slammed off a bike by an idiot flying through a stop sign coming out of an apartment complex. It threw me clear, then he backed up over my bike trying to dislodge it before taking off:mad:

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but a broken leg can put you down WAY longer than that I broke my tibia just below the knee in Oct of 2011 Im still not 100% back and probably never will be, the break caused trauma induced osteo arthritis in that knee...Its a bitch Im still getting better but it hurts every day even at that i do low impact cardio 3-4 times a week for 45 mins....stationary bike, cross country skiing thing and some stairmaster kind of contraption with handles....

Oh and I ride every day If you dont count the six months i was in a wheel chair from the broken leg I put 40K miles on the bike in 2.5 yrs

and no the broken leg wasnt related to the bike.

Everything carries danger, I scuba dive too but these things arent going to stop me from enjoying my life by doing the things I love

The OP is just being a divisive asshat, If the open road or the sensation of being able to fly appeals to you by all means take a riders course and enjoy it...

Probably most of the injured might not have had the experience or proper training to drive those rice rockets.I only like the dirt bikes

Do today's young people read this book anymore?:

http://rhapsodyinbooks.files.wordpre...aintenance.jpg

I guess the Motorcycle Diaries is more contemporary - the book was released in 1993, and the movie in 2004 (although the diaries were written by Che decades ago back in the 50's)...

Have you ridden one?

I thought the same thing about guns. Fired one..and was hooked.

Thought the same thing about bikes. Rode one. Loved it.

Though different strokes for different folks.
