I have very little in my savings account. As soon as I have a little savings built up, I look for the best deal on a short-term CD and invest. I find it's better to keep my money out of my hands. If I need a lot of money I have to wait 7-10 months for all of my CDs to come due and then pull the money instead of renewing the CD. That keeps me from making a large impulse purchase. I'm too dumb to have access to a large amount of money all at once.

Cool but look into ing or something like that. You have more access to the cash but it takes days to move it and the rates are very close to CD's if not better.

My savings is at ing. You can't get 3% locally, that's for sure.

That girl is so hot!

Babaganoosh 07-19-2008 09:50 AM

I want to have to wait for a large sum of money. I have made a couple of really, incredibly stupid large purchases in my life that were impulse buys. I am trying to prevent that from happening again my not having my money easily accessible.

Washington Mutual is 3.3%, no minimum. Six months ago I belive it was 3.6% though. Looks like their CDs are 4.25% on 8 months. Check their site and see if there is one near you.

Reak AGV 07-19-2008 10:38 AM

I've got a little bit more in there.. :)

Deej 07-19-2008 11:30 AM

I was just reading their site last night... I got the impression that you can move money pretty much instantly. Possibly from your savings to your Electric Orange checking?

I'm thinking about totally switching over to ING for their rates... but at the same time, I like having a relationship with my local bank come loan time. An extra point isn't everything... maybe split the money between local and online national?
