Pitbull ... Rottweiler ... Or ?

In the market for a new dog / friend :)

I prefer "masculine" dogs, ie. pitbulls / rotties etc.

I want a dog that is obedient, friendly, and can also be trained to attack if need be.

Anybody have any suggestions on the kind of dog to go with?

I read about someone who ordered his pitbull to attack another person. The pitbull killed the person and the owner went to jail for murder.
Just so you know, they now charge the owner if you order your pitbull to attack someone. I don't know if this applies to all dogs, but it sure does with pitbulls.

If you want a tough dog I would go with a German Shepard. They are very loyal, smart & strong. I always thought the Doberman Pincher looked pretty mean and strong as well.

Juge 09-24-2002 11:35 AM

rotty.

pitbulls are a little stubborn.

both are intellgent dogs, and like humans, contrary to their rep. Their rep is just because assholes raise assholes, whether it's humans or dogs. the rotty is more particular to a single person, though.

I always wanted to own a 'bobcat' they are wild cats which only weigh about 20 pounds, but they are fucking tough. The little things can bring down a deer.
They live in BC, so maybe one of these days when I go hiking I'll find a baby and bring it home. (lol, I wish)

let's own a bobcat

LOL

"stop nawing on my friends you stupid bobcat"

hahahah

someone mentioned dobermans, they are quite nice.

SextrafficPete 09-24-2002 12:07 PM

i can get trained rottweilers for about $3k a pop

they are supposedly trained to be quite friendly to people you want it to be, and attack when you want it or if you are threatened

however, i wonder what kind of treatment these dogs go through to be trained to be like that, i don't want some abused dog.

the guy said i will save money on a security system, it wouldn't be needed, his dogs you can tell them to patrol a certain area and attack if anybody comes on that space. i like that. if i am running through the forest or something, and someone tries to attack me, i can just get the dog to take them out and continue running :)

I've done everything I wanted to do in my life time except 5 things:

- travel the world.
- skydive.
- deep sea dive.
- get married.
- own a fucking bobcat.:thumbsup

Yeah I mentioned Dobermans as well. My friend had one and it was a great dog.

I have a blue pit, she's the best dog Ive ever had. Pit bulls are the most loyal dogs you will ever find. All the negative publicity they get is bullshit, it's all about how you raise them.

Cheshire 09-24-2002 12:27 PM

Sorry, I can't see too well. Post one of yourself please...

I like the Dobermans my self, have one right now! No real need to attack train them , you are just looking for trouble! They are naturally protective of you anyways, so a good obedience school is the way to go!:2 cents:

almost all dogs and definately the ones listed here do NOT need to be trained to attack (for protection). if you treat your dog with love and respect and as part of your family they will not hesitate to trade their lives for that of your family.
read the article about the family golden retriever that traded its life fighting to protect the family child that was being mauled by a pitbull. thats love. you cant train that.

SextrafficPete 09-24-2002 01:22 PM

i love golden retrievers, that was a dog i was considering as well

they are very smart, friendly, the works

one would think they are pussycats when being attacked though

American bulldogs get to be about 85-120 pounds twice the weight of a pitbull and they all have there own look which makes them unique.

its the same dog as the one on the little rascals

They are great with kids but will protect the house
there heads get the size of a baketball.

I own a rottie. He is 4 months old now and is 45lbs. I got him at 8 weeks old. I did alot of research before buying him. Rotties are awesome, but You need to be in his life from early puphood. Buying him already trained sounds fishy to me. I would make sure you get a rottie thats parents have been health certified due to the fact that hip problems, joint problems, uncontrollible aggression, ect have been more prominent lately due to bad breeding. This will cost in vet bills and heart break. visit rottweiler.net to find out anything you may want to know.
I read recently that dobermans are in the top five of the "Smart" dogs. and easier to train. (just something i read). Be sure you have lots of time to train and love this animal, a rottie is very different from your average dog. But, they are very protective, sensitve and loyal.
