Do you filter or do you buy bottled water?

I'm having a high-end filtering system installed today. Actually in about an hour, and I can't wait. For nearly 15 years now I have been using the "Brita" water filtering jug thingy.

My sister and her family, on the other hand, have had their water delivered in 5 gallon bottles for years now, and they use one of those water cooler things in their kitchen. I've never really gotten interested in doing it that way.

My parents have had this type of filtration system under their kitchen sink for many years now, and it appears to be the best way to go.

How do you manage your water at your house? Filter system?

Delivered bottles?

Straight from the tap???

Fetish Gimp 04-25-2006 08:15 AM

I drink water straight outta da tap cuz das how we roll in da hood nigga.

MarkMan 04-25-2006 08:16 AM

buy bottled here.. but thinking of a high-end filtering system.

Tom_PM 04-25-2006 08:21 AM

I just cant bring myself to purchase water! I let the tap run for a solid couple of minutes then fill a big safe pitcher, lol.

I'd prefer a whole house filter if it was proven and cost effective, but it's not in the cards until I purchase a home.

Sosa 04-25-2006 08:35 AM

I buy bottled water.

CDSmith 04-25-2006 08:37 AM

I must admit I've found myself wondering how we can all be sure that the bottled water is really any better than your average tap water.

It might say "mountain spring filtered"... but how do you know? :D

SexyD 04-25-2006 08:39 AM

bottled but only the mineral kind....

gimo33 04-25-2006 08:43 AM

filtered ,bottled and straight from the tap :)

SilentKnight 04-25-2006 09:14 AM

Bottled water here - we pick it up ourselves in the 5gal jugs at a reverse-osmosis water depot.

CDSmith 04-25-2006 09:44 AM

The installer is working in the basement now. He says this system I'm getting is a "triple filtering reverse osmosis" system.

Sound badass.

amandaspost 04-25-2006 09:46 AM

whats wrong with tap water?? the same water is being used to fill those bottles guys. i think its not very smart to buy bottles if the tap water in your country is fine...

You're right of course. Here in Winnipeg we get our water from Shoal Lake and have been getting it from there for many many decades now. It's a high quality source of water and is today probably as good as it ever was.

But the problem with most people's tap water is with lead water pipes. While newer communities all likely have copper pipes, the older areas still use lead piping. That means people are encouraged to run their tap for a bit before using any water for drinking or cooking.

With this new system installed I no longer have to worry about it, or about having to buy bottled water, period.

The guy's all done, making my first pot of coffee from the new water. :D

CDSmith 04-25-2006 11:20 AM

On a side note, he has also contracted me to design his company website, plus ongoing maintenance and business cards.

Today's been a good day so far and it ain't over yet. :D

madawgz 04-25-2006 11:25 AM

just drink the tap water!

Tabitha's Toybox 04-25-2006 11:28 AM

you all need to watch Penn and Teller BULLSHIT!

they really hit the bottled water issue hard and reveal where a lot of the bottled water comes from

We use the Brita jug thing, but I am not too worried about it, our tap water is really good in our area....tap water is actually better than bottled water in a lot of places

on a side note, did you all know that GE developed a way to convert ocean salt water into fresh water? they are currently processing 1.8 billion gallons a day

Babagirls 04-25-2006 11:29 AM

i buy bottled water for various reasons.

1) easy to grab on the go
2) better to offer to company (instead of a cup of water lol)
3) going on walks/hikes (freeze it the night before)

L-Pink 04-25-2006 11:31 AM

Having grown-up in Florida where you can smell the water, I have always been more comfortable with bottled water.

All reverse osmosis takes 3 filters. You can get them off ebay for $100
