Anybody investing in Dinars?

A friend of mine was over, says he has been hearing about the potential to make a ton of return on investing in Dinars.

Anyone?

Fine then, this guy I know who doesn't like me was over and we had a discussion involving things that I'll never do. Now I'm here wondering if people I'll never meet might post in ways that aren't relative to the question I asked.

Thanks for the bump

you can buy iraqi dinars on ebay
dinars is a currency in many arab countries. SO you need to be more specific.
Iraqi dinars are not a free floating currency, so highly risky. I believe you could buy 5m of them for $5k few years ago. Seems they're much cheaper on ebay now. That should tell ya something,

All other dinars in the Gulf are pegged to a US Dollar or a basket of currencies.
Your best bet is to hold on to the currency you currently have, USD, euro.. ect
everything else is a sucker bet.

The rumor I heard was that Chase Bank has announced that they will no longer be selling Iraqi Dinars as of the 15th of December. A friend of a friend is the guy who does the investments for a city near me - the city is investing $9000 of their budget in Iraqi Dinars because they believe Chase is trying to scare the public into selling the currency back to them.

i think it's a one time thing - if the currency gets re-evaluated, that's when the money is to be made. The birdie sitting on my shoulder is speculating that this will happen sometime around the first of the year.

Which is exactly why I posted this thread, to see if anybody had anything valuable to add.

It's obvious that nobody here knows shit.

investing in Iraqi Dinars is a very speculative investment just like penny stocks. if it becomes available/accepted in the world market you can guarantee you'll make some money. another thing is that they may change the money again and your Dinars will be worthless.

if your interested in looking at the history of a currency similar to what may occur to the Iraqi Dinar look into Iraq or Kuwait during th Gulf War. i forget which one it is.

again it's all speculation, and which way you believe the cards will fall.

Kuwait. I've read and heard that a lot of money was made over the course of a couple years when their economy stabilized.

It's amazing how little information there is to be found (aside from the obvious capitalistic blogs like dinar-money.com dinar-banking.com get-rich-on-dinar.com sites....) on the net about this.

I love how people on this site are always quick to point out how stupid the next guy is... it's almost like every single person here has an inferiority complex.

I'll go ahead and make your day a little brighter - it's obvious, even to a dunce like me, that you and many other people here are much more brilliant than I am, and will always be more successful. Cheers to your success!

Now that that's out of the way, if anyone has anything intelligent to add - I'd love to hear it.

I play the lottery once in a while... this isn't any worse than that, is it? Didn't think so.

I bought $250,000 in Iraqui Dinars. I did some math and came to the conclusion that if the Iraqi Dinar becomes obsolete, I have exactly enough bills to make a border around my new bathroom.

I bought a few a few years ago. Bought into the history of investors making millions off German Marks after the war & Kuwait & Afghanistan Dinars, etc. You want to make sure you're getting real Dinars for one. I don't think any bank in america trades them so definitely that rumor about Chase is BS. I think you'd have to go to Iraq and buy gold/diamonds etc to switch them back into something you can exchange to US$.

Some bad things can happen.
#1. The new Iraqi government could invalidate the old currency
#2. There could never be a government in Iraq or a central bank
#3. The economy will remain in shambles there for as long as you're alive
#4. We'll switch to electric cars by the time they get their central bank up to speed killing their GDP and keeping your Dinar's worthless
#5. You'll end up buying counterfeit Dinars

If you can afford to buy expensive souvenirs drop $500-1000 on Dinars as a high risk almost not even classifiable as an investment. Maybe in 15 years they'll be worth real $. You're probably better off buying some Japanese Yen or investing in our own beat down stock market.

PS they make great Xmas gifts for employees/friends, etc
